Timing belt advice.

I've not got the locking tool no! I've done multiple cars without locking tools are these That fiddly?

Also can the aux belt and tensioner be done at a separate time?

Edit: I have the locking tools for the job now borrowing of a friend.

Yea if you don't know what you're doing then just get a specialist to do it.

If you knew how much of a pig it was, and the consequences for f**king it up you'd be more than happy to pay someone to do it.

  330i. E30 Touring.
As above. And aux belt etc needs to come off to do the cambelt, so might as well replace it while you're there. Aux kit is only £60 or so.

Don't forget buying the locking tool kit, which for some reason only the genuine Renault item seems to actually work correctly.

loving your username <3

After hearing the horror stories I would just pay a specialist, it does last five years which works out at around 3.423p a day if the job costs you £500, thats including 1x leap year day.

Thanks for the replys lads, I've got a friend doing it for me who has had sports for years and worked for Renault he has the timing belt tools.

Paying him 100 to do it plus the water pump. Want the job right. I'm a mechanic by trade but I don't have the timing tools so I guess it's not worth the risk. Thanks for the advice lads.

If you join up I think there is a guide in the guides section.

With the correct tools and following the guide it's not actually that hard.

Once you get your head around the fact everything floats then you're winning.

It's not quite a case of them being fiddly as such (they are), it's that it cannot be done without the locking tools.
