might throw this out in the dark here and say that i dont think the clio has a fan belt? i could well be wrong

timing belt goes from main crank to cam etc for the main donkeywork of engine operation.
iirc the aux belt if the effective fan belt with whistles as it runs the water pump, PAS & air con.

from what im told the belt itself is fairly strong, its the pulleys & cams which are the weakest links

yup, they're basically the same thing though. The term is just a cry back to the days when everything was rear wheel drive, and the fan was attached to the front of the engine, normally on the water pump

a aux belt, fan belt, serpentine belt are usually all the same thing nowadays on cars the fan belt used to run a fan as you could guess ! aux belt came into play as they run the alternator, aircon compressor, water pump etc then it got re-named serpentine belt as it is pretty long on some cars so looks like a snake !!! just different names mate nothin to worry about,, the clio has a electronically controlled fan from the engine ecu via a temp sensor for the gauge.

aye wasnt worried at all lol theyve all been changed on time and all that. just you hear cars squealing when driving, then someone would say " ah new fan belt needed"....never heard of an aux belt until i came on here! had an idea they were the same thing really.knew about the electric fan and all that. but cheers for clearing it up!
