To have or have not Spigot Rings

  Petrol Blue 182.
bad idea? as the weight of the car is purly on the wheel nuts and not the hub aswell? or is that wrong lol

not a major deal tbh. i am running oz wheels at the moment with the wrong hub size and its fine. you get a little vibration when doing about 90 but thats about it tbh

I had a problem with mine on my turinis today. Wheel were wobbling, so took it to a trye place and they said one of the springs wasnt in right, but becasue there was hubs in there aswell it doesnt matter, you only need one or the other...they also told me i need new brake pads and discs....£100! uh oh

just get them fitted!!

costs circa £10 as said!

you'll get wheel balance like issues at speed, e.g vibration! which is never a good thing!

f**k sake! Im not saying they wont be fitted but the only thing people say the problem is, is with vibration.

Being plastic the spigots can't be doing any form of load taking otherwise they would smash???

the vibration is caused by the wheels moving much like an unbalanced wheel. This will be happening all the time even though you may not notice it all the time. This movement will be putting additional stress of parts and therefore may cause them to fail.

"may" is the appropriate word i like :) ;)

My steering rack "may" fail on the way home :)

LOL it sounds like im being argumentative but im not! :)

I understand the chances of the bolts failing would be increased but then the plastic spigot "may" ;) crack/fail and the vibration/movement might happen which put added stress on things, then things "may" ;) start to fail!

xxxxx!!

How are spigot rings not load bearing? They may be weak on their own, but when sandwiched between the wheel and the hub they are as strong as they need to be. Spigot rings can be either aluminium or plastic, if I had the choice I'd opt for aluminium.

I wouldn't run without them as, as far as I'm concerned they will take load off of the wheel bolts and onto the hub where it belongs.

i would just get some tbh. its £10 or so. not worth the risk. if you have to ask the question, there is obviously some concern there.

You need to run them to ensure correct wheel location in relation to the hub and they do have a load bearing role - end of.

Cheers

all about the risk your willing to take. when the risk involves spending a tenner, its not worth it imo.

The issue isn't about me buying them (as they are already on the way).. it was a genuine question and no real scientific explanation has been given other than "f**king buy some" (not aimed at you!)

Just f**king buy some

I didnt run one of my passenger side front wheel of my punto. After about 3 weeks the wheel bolts had worked themselves loose, and had managed to egg the holes themselves.

Get some or the above WILL happen!

So when a mechanic at a tyre wheel place pulled out a metal ring within the plastic ring...wtf was that?

As said above, can be plastic or metal.Stupidity to run without, puts the load on the bolts, all for the sake of under £20!

  BMW M135i
i can't see how they would be load bearing? unless your wheel nuts were loose
The weight of the car sits on the spigot of the hub not the wheel bolts when fitted with standard wheels or wheels with the correct centre bore. The bolts are there to hold the wheel on, not hold the weight of the car as well.
