to swap or not to swap.....

  ibiza cupra
hey guys just joined, bin offered a renault clio 172 53plate with 54k and totally standard... (silver)

for my ibiza cupra 1.8 20v turbo, 2001, 70k. (red)

as a straight swap with 500quid my way..

just wondering if anyone thinks its a good deal or not?

bin doing some research and on paper the 172 is quicker off the line and a better top end, handling is also much better too. but ive raced a 172 and i beat it, this was top end down a motorway though, not off the line.

however the guy pulled up at the lights and said to me ''bloody hell, you got a turbo in that?'' and looked surprised that he couldnt keep up!

any thoughts, suggestions would be great cheers

I would, but then I hate Ibiza's. Look good, but drive awful.

There is a 51 plate at a local garage to me in Yellow for £4995.

I think the deal is quite good to be fair. Unless the Clio needs the belts doing....

cool, well i think its a good deal too.

good handling performance, fast, its a newer car than mine, and they do look good aswell....

i dont think the belt needs changing until 70k if im right? im guessing its a big job with the lack of space under the bonnet... and as its on 54k it should be okay for a while..

its due on time. The Aux belt wants doing at 3 years, and the Cambelt at five years.

The last thing you want on a 2.0 Clio is a snapped cambelt. You may aswell throw it in the bin and buy a new one.

Think the belts should be changed after 5 years or 70k, which ever comes first.

ahh okay i see... spoken to the owner and he says they've been changed but has no proof of it, in reciepts etc. i understand its a big job from what i have researched on the net, whats the average cost for it?

  Iceberg 172
Traffic light grand prix is not the be all and end all tbh.

Handling all the way for me.

not a massive job then really, i paid about that on my cupra. also mates rates will bring it down a bit....

so whats the best and worst things about 172's from your own experiences rather than wat i read on parkers and other review sites

swap! little rattles are the only problems, honest!

And if the belts need doing, you're getting £500 anyway.

Done deal imo
