Toasted a Hartge Cooper-S

Oops, I mean toasted by a Hartge Cooper S!

Had a drive of CooperS Boys Hartge Cooper-S last night. Its, um....quick. Before the conversion it was neck and neck with the Williams until 115mph where it crept past. This time it pulled away immediately and continued to pull away convincingly to an estimated 150ft at 110mph from a 40mph rolling start. Ive calculated that it will be about 200ft away from the Williams at 100mph from a standing start.

It doesnt feel that quick to drive until you look at the speedo and realise that you can put your foot down at about 3000rpm in 6th gear and it will just accelerate and accelerate and it looks like itll keep going until it goes off the clocks. We only went up to about 120mph or so, but when I was running out of steam, the Cooper kept going. Toasted!

We also had a quick blast through some back roads and oh dear.....its quick through those too! I did find the steering a bit floaty and light compared to the Willy, but it does go round corners quickly, so cant really complain. If I had the money, id get myself a base spec. S and have the Hartge package on it. £16300 seems pretty good value.

or was he though? remember they put the cold air feed direftly onto his intercooler didnt they?

Think its around 215bhp now. If youre careful setting off, traction isnt much of a problem with the 17" wheels on it.

And yes, its possible that the cold air right on the intercooler helped at the RR day, but it is still rapid. First gear is far too long though. With a closer ratio box itd be murderously fast.

Ah yes, and thanks to Cooper S boy for letting me drive it (and do some 0-100 runs :devilish:)

16.4 was the best run we did with 2 up. Not getting good starts though. I really need some practice if I plan on coming to York!!!!

That was with the AP-22. Showed about 108 on the clock which explains why I was dipping into th 14s the night before with my unscientific calculations!!

Dont think its like launch control. If the wheels start to spin itll cut power to the engine which isnt great when attempting a good launch! I think that race logic launch control can make 1000 adjustments a second or something like that. Cant imagine the built in traction control being designed for quick launches.

Mummy will you buy me one :D.

I used to have a mini for my first car. Cooper replica hehe.

Shame BMW make em. Rover should have kept hold of em. Mini is typically British and BMW making em takes the piss really.

They arent so "Mini" now though are they, bigger than my clio! hehe. Not liek the old days hehe.
