Too Clio or not too Clio.

  Clio 1.4RT
upon picking a new car i have many many many options.
1)Clio Dynamique 1.6
2)Golf 1.6 or TDI
3)Fiesta Zetec S (currently has me pulled in, just love the way they look)

is there anything else in the insurance group 6-8 sorta range u guys can think of?

A bit dated now but Saxo VTR? Cheap to run and decent performance from 1.6. Probably cheaper to buy than most of the cars above.

  Clio 1.6 16v Dynamique +
If it was me I would go for the Clio 1.6, but then again I'm biased because I have one. lol

I'm not into the Golf anymore, it's got too big and chunky. The Fiesta is ok, but again just doesn't do it for me.

As for the Saxo that Gazz has suggested. DON'T DO IT! They are really slow compared to the 1.6 Clio. Dunc used to have one but got rid of it after my little Clio showed it up BIG style. lol

That's my two pennies worth anyway.

One of my mates has a 51 plate Golf 1.6, its not that quick really and handles like a bus, the build quality is good though, not very sporty.
Another mate has an imperial Blue Zetec S, looks stunning, goes well, handles very well, but at the end of the day its still a fiesta and the interior is very dated -worse than my Clio 1.2 16v. I toyed with getting one, but going from 4 air bags to 1 is abit of a downgrade.
Saxo VTR, quick, handles well, interior is horrible, and they are not very safe.
Clio 1.6's are very nice but seem to be expensive secondhand and are often group 10 for insurance. (A Fiesta Zetec S is group 7.) Some of the decent 1.6's are 172FF money.
I probably haven't been much help, but im in a similar position to you, will probably keep the 1.2 16v until I can make the bigger jump to a 172.

The Zetec S is a good little car but they're not fast! I had one, looked great but got a bit embarressing when you put your foot down lol

Good points
Parts are cheep, doesn't cost much to run, cheep insurance.

Bad
They rust, HPI it theres dodgy ones about, build qualitys not great, interior is poor.

Clio's the better car if you can afford it.

That is bull. I owned a VTR and there were not any 1.6 Clios that I came across that out-performed it. Accelaration is almost the same and the Saxo handles better than the Clio 1.6. Interior isn't great but neither is the Clio for that matter. Showed it up BIG style - haha, okay!

People slate the clio interiors, but the interior of a Dynamique is alot better than either the zetec s or the saxo vtr.

Well I shall have to agree to disagree with you there Gaz. My 1.6 did indeed leave Duncs 1.6 Saxo behind. He complained that he had to 'Thrash the b****cks' out of it to try and keep up. This is why he got shot of the Saxo and got his 2.0ltr Megane Coupe. You don't have to believe me at all, but Dunc will tell you exactly the same thing. He loved his Saxo and really wanted to keep it, but when it couldn't keep up with my Clio without him thrashing it he decided it had to go.

  Ultra Blue R26
Sorry Gaz but I have to back Debz up here, I had a mint Mk1 VTR only 30k on the clock and the only way I could keep up was to use everything the little Saxo had and Debz doesn't believe in pushing her Clio really hard, so you work out which was quicker :rasp:

  Clio 1.4RT
see im looking at zetecs with the full leather interior cuz the cloth is gash lol, insurance group 9 is a little bit too steep for me, 7 or 8 is about right. someone mentioned the alfa romeo (im guessing its high insurance?) another thing i noticed is the Yaris's? or are they a bit girly lol?

  a burnt one
Well a clio is about as clio as you will get therefore it may be considered too clio.
A golf is built to an exceptionally high standard and doesnt handle particularly well so cant be considered too clio at all.

A fiesta zetec is a small, cheap 3 door hatchback with fuel consumption and performance to match most in the clio range so that would have to be considered less like a clio but closer to a clio than the golf.

Or maybe i've totally misunderstood the question.

  Clio 1.4RT
the question was rather which little insurance group 7ish hatch would you go for other than the clio really sorry if i worded it wrong

  Coiley'd Clio PH2
Id say either the zetec s or the clio! Definately not the golf!!!

The zetec s is a very nice looking car, the clio is a very nice looking car. But its down to the indivuidual really.

  Clio 1.4RT
i honestly think the zetec s look the sex its also sport which the dynamiques... are not. just been pointed in the direction of the yaris t sports. they look pretty nice tbh.

  Clio 1.4RT

Yaris T sport: 103bhp 118mh 0-60:8.7secs (60-100 in fourth 8.8secs)
Fiesta Zetec S: 98bhp 114mph 0-60:9.9secs
