Too much oil???

  PB 172 phase 2
Hi all, I gave my 172 ph2 non cup an oil change and new oil filter yesterday.

I put 4.80ish litres of oil and the dipstick reads over the max line by about double again? How come it's so high, I read on here it's 5.1 litres to the max line?

Help please, don't really want to drive it until it's sorted.
The sound low/dull on idle this morning, if that's anything to do with it?

I almost did this last night. You'll never drain all the oil out. 5.1l is for a brand new dry engine, so 5l is the recommended amount when doing an oil change.

Thank you for replying, - what's the best option now?

How long did you let it drain out for?

4.8 Litres should be fine. No way it could read so high on the dipstick, unless it was still gushing out when you put the sump plug back on..

Sometimes it can take a while for it to all drain out, especially if the engine is cold and hasn't been warmed up recently.

Either that or your dipstick is miss leading, make sure you give it a proper clean and make sure it's not just residue oil from the side of the dipstick holder.

Sorry, just realised you only put 4.8l in, so in theory it should be okay. As Martin says, maybe didn't drain it long enough so there was loads of old oil still in there.

Check when engine is cold.

Pull dipstick out.

Wipe with cloth.

Insert.. Count to 3.. Pull out and take a photo and upload here..

I'd bet it's fine, you're just reading it wrong.

When I emptied the sump of its oil and replaced the filter yesterday - I undid the sump bolt and let it empty to a drip, I then immediately took the filter off and let it deep out from there too. I then went and made a brew, drank it and returned to the see sump had stopped dripping to maybe once every half a minute or more. I then replaced washer and put sump bolt back in along with putting the filter on, and only then Did I Put the oil in.

If this is so incredibly urgent, have you done what I suggested ?

I've waited in all day for this photo..

It's gonna have to be worth the wait or I'm going to be very upset.

Oh no, I looked after putting the car on flat ground and it was bang on max, so I started to replace the rear discs and stub axle and forgot. I apologise if you waited. I'm now stuck with the torx sizes of the four screws holding stub axle on? I wanna put the stub axle spacers and new stub axle on but can't find the right size bits.

Thank you for all your help and again, sorry fella
