top 25 a load of b*lls

  80MPG BEEZA
every show iven entered ive always stayed till the very end, hits year though i saw people sitting in their cars bored, before reults and before the rain, but they should have been aware as u did state no leaving before 5 but it was pouring it down at 4! and what about the lads on the motorbikes flying round where everyone was?

i believe you were well organised but plans did have flaws in them.

can you tell us what criteria you are told the top 25 are supposed to have? because top doesnt fence anything off it could just be off the top of someones big head

any 1 see the 106 in the 106 owners with lambo doors weell that made every1 laught and that was as bad as some in the top 25

I found that when we were queing to get in me and my mates were laughing at some cars, and some of them seemed to appear in the top 25:S

well mate i got sent in the wrong way, got told i was in the way and told to move aside then left next to a burger van for over 30 mins before having to go kick off and some stuard before he finally led me round the right way which took all of 10 mins

yes you expect some cars to be a load of crap but everyone cant have mint cars you should have seen my last car it was 3 shades of red and i flog my n*ts off for this car, but i believe their should be rules on what the top 25 should be and certain criteria they should meet, e.g all should be be used a certain amount of mileage a year etc etc and that doesnt HAVE to be one of the rules, its making the comp fair and open to everyone and giving people a chance to enter and things been square

i think the biggest problem with all these 'top 25' type shows is that only the people with massively modified cars actually apply so thats what they have to accept. i personally think it should be judged on originality and quality not on how big the wheels are, or how much fibreglass they've used.

some of the cars on the stand were laughable in terms of their quality and finishing - like spraying air vents that were masked up by stevie wonder :S

yeah steve with the 106 gti put some real hard work in for the top 25, his car had been blown over and in his garage stripped polishing for last 2 weeks and the engine bay bling is all new this year, the other mate on the stand was ben his was the white 306 rallye stripped out and he does about 30k a year in that car. he knew before he even turned up some kind of platic fantastic trailer queen would win but he appreciated the offer to display his car.

i agree though i saw nicer cars in the car parks than some of the entrants but then again the whole point of the whole modding scene is individuality so each to their own. im glad were moving away from bodykits and silly rims though towards the smoother less is more approach.

I stopped buying modified car mags a long time ago as they were just getting ridiculous. Once the looses it automotion is not worth having, so for me a well modified car becomes more drivable and less trailor fodder rather than the opposite.

It was obvious from wear and tear in some of the 25 that they were nothing but show cars and had been for a long time and whilst some of these car's were pedigree fast road cars from the off, its nice to see someone who puts the time and effort into making a base model stand out more than an off the peg sport model.

not just marks car but a few other 1.2 on the CS stand were exceptional and had me fooled for some time as to there authenticity. But I digress, the event was run by an autopolishing company and I would have though the winner would have been based upon the cleanest and best presented on the day, not who's car had be "P.I.M.P'd" the most.

Hiya Mark & ClioSport.. Im the guy with the Black 106 GTi...

I happen to agree with what you have said Mark.. Originally i thought it was a Show 'n' Shine competition for the Meguiars Top 25 cars... This didn't really seem to be the case after the blue 206cc walked away with the win... Yeah, the car had a huge amount of money thrown at it, but i dont think that should help the car towards a winning position...

I had spent 4-5 months over the winter on mine.. Up on axle stands getting the under-body, exterior & engine bay concours... Struggled to see how the winner recieved the position he did with dirty arches & un-touched underbody...

IMO a completely standard car could be able to go into a Show 'n' Shine & take the 1st place becuase its concours, rather than a car thats had a 40k cheque thrown to it....

Thanks for the comments on mine though guys.. Had a look round yours Mark.. Looked very nice..!! Always good to see subtle modifications over fibreglass creations on stands.... :)

I guessed it could not be a concours type event seeing the amount of dirt some of the cars had on them, glad I did not bother to enter - though seeing the cars in it from past years gave away that this year did not look to be any different. A guy from the Pug club commented much the same last year after he entered his Concours 205 in it.

Cheers Sib.. :)

Rich - I take it you mean the 205 with the chome rims & bluey flame things up the side..?? Remember seeing that at a few shows last year & was always looking very mint..!!

  106 GTi
No was a totally standard looking 205 1.6 on the G plate with a very badly painted underside. I used to compete against him with me 306.

My favourite car was the white renault 5 with the mental twin exhausts. I know the bloke who owns it and he is a top bloke. He showed me the work thats been done since last year and the quality of the finish was un-real. I really love that car.

I did think Batmans car looked a little out of place on the stand as it seemed to be dominated by very highly modded cover cars. It was still clean tho :)

i know lots of people with crazy modded cars that have been self done it really doesnt take much knack the make fibeglass boot builds ive done 2 myself build up the frame wrap in material fibreglass smooth then paint and every other panels the same,

and that shows the large selection of people that liked the modified cars...lusty

says it all really i rest my case

to be fair.....the main scene is the one that involves fiberglass and bodykits...we all know it...yeah it may not be too our taste but purests like most of the people on here are a minority to the rest of the moddifying scene....VWs are the only other cars that i know that are quite dedicated to stock parts and power gains....
