Transfering Registration Number To My Clio

As my brother is staying in Dubai for another 10 years his registration is no longer needed on his car as he's setting it. Its on his Boxter and he said I can have it but how do I go about changing it from his car onto mine?

Get a retention form from the dvla site, send a cheque with the form to DVLA - it costs £105 - this gets you a retention certificate but includes the transfer fee (£80) allowing you to complete the transfer doc and assign the plate to your car.

If you don't want to put it on your car you can keep it for a year for that £105 fee and then pay a renewal each year to keep it. It's free to have on your car though but if you plan to change cars within the year just hold it on retention.

You can just transfer it to your car for £80, as by the sounds of it putting it on retention isn't what you want to do.

I've just done this although I went down to the local DVLA office to pay/check docs and the new V5 docs came back within 7 days.

Ah right yeah Day is right, £25 is the retention fee and £80 is the transfer fee so £80 should cover it. I dunno what forms to use in this case so maybe best seeing your local DVLA office.
