could it be anything to do with the wiring because i have recently tried fitting a sub and amp and the problem has only occured after i did this? where about is the wire that goes to the trip computer from the petrol tank?

  Racing blue 182 turbo :-)
Dunno where the trip wire is but fitting a amp you shouldent have gone anywhere near trip wire lol

Is your car coming up to a service?
I think you can reset them by holding down the button on your instrument pannel until the dashed lines begin to flash.

but im not 100% i've only just started my apprenticeship. i could ask one of the tech's at work though??

I have a question regarding this too, my fuel gauge (04 1.2 Dynamique) just changed from 1 full bar left to 0 bars, i.e. although showing no bars itd only just changed to that so probably had nearly a full bar left, checked the trip computer to see how far I'd get with only just under 1 bar of fuel left

when I pressed the end of the wiper stalk to scroll through the functions came to the 1 I wanted, the remaining fuel trip distance, (icon of a petrol pump sign an arrow and a picture of a car) all it had above it was - - - - instead of a remaining distance figure e.g. 28 miles etc.

my dads vectra computer tells you your range right down till it says you have 1 mile left till you run out of fuel, both as a warning message and as a figure in the scroll down list of functions, hence why I think theres something up with my clio remaining range function of the computer

any ideas?

prior to it going down to less than 1 bar of fuel it said my range was about 38 miles or something, but as soon as the fuel gauge dropped below 1 bar it suddenly changed to the - - - - icon

the trip computer does this when you get to the reserve tank. on mine i think its at 30 miles left the screen changes to ---- and the fuel warning light comes on.

when the fuel light comes on the display goes to - - - - because people would rely on the reading before filling up. It is only an indication, not a guarantee of how many miles untill you run out.

Sounds like a wiring or problem with the instrument panel. It won't be your fuel level sensor if you analogue guage is reading half full.

Infact I take the first bit back about the wiring what can I say it was late when I made that post!
Almost definetly a instrument panel problem as the wires for the trip computer and the analogue fuel gauge from the level sensor are the same so if one is giving a reading and others not it speaks for itself.

could taking the dash off have anything to do with this problem? im pretty sure that this will having nothing to do with it as taking the dash off does not involve detaching any wires or anything.

Check the early line on the dashboard take the dash top off and check in the center of the car the nut for the earth is makign a good contact.
