Tripods

dick

not really, not if u dont want it to move, like to see you making a hdr photo or a long exposure.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!! Mate borrowed my Jessops tripod I stupidly bought and his SLR face planted into some pebles :S

Cheap plastic, not sturdy, replaced mine with a Sherpa 250R, you can remove the head but I've never bothered, it can hold my 350D + 70-200 F4 + 430EX flash. Got mine for 55 at a local store, seems prices have gone up though...

Cheap as chips and pretty sturdy too - I've not broken my one yet.

Is light which means it's ace to carry, but also means not 100% rock-solid when properly breezy, but I've only had trouble a couple of times in 3k+ pictures. It does hold a Fuji bridge camera nicely though, and it goes from about a foot off the floor to chest height, almost head height if you wind the middle bit up.

I'm very happy with mine - will do me until I'm minted and can afford a proper one. :)

If you don't get that Manfrotto, as said the Velbon 250R is decent, I trust it enough to let the waves wrap around the legs on coastal shoots.

Rallye-Joe : AFAIK there is a universal screw size, so I'd say yes.

I have the Velbon CX440 got it on offer last year, its pretty sturdy, and even when I went up to the cliffe in Sandow IOW early this year with a gale force wind, it stayed pretty stable.

I always take a bean bag with me which is quite a decent weight so if i feel the tripod is moving I put the bean bag on the center of the tripod inbetween the centre colum which just adds a little extra weight to stop it moving.

Only thing I dont like is the Quick release base they supply as it makes it very difficult to change the battery without undoing it, as the base takes up the whole of the camera.
