Trouble cancelling policy help needed please.

Hi i have just called up my insurance company (Insureyourmotor.com) and spoke to them about cancelling my policy as i am selling the car, as i pay the insurance monthly they use a different company to collect the installments (like a loan from what i can tell from what the lady said on the phone) however when i asked about it she said that i will have to pay the remainder of the policy and there is still 5 months left! how can i get round this, because surely i shouldnt have to do this, as every time before ive cancelled insurance they do it and just give me back the remainder for the month and cancell it without any drama!

If someone could advise me what to do i would be extremely grateful. Thanks

i was thinking that maybe say that i cant afford the car and the insurance thats why im selling it? hmm

they didnt send me any documentation! only email and it doesnt say anything at all on there!
