trouble getting insured

  MK2 PH2 & E46 330
having a few problems getting insurance on a modified 1.4rt.

suspension exhaust and wheels.

im 18.. been driving as a named driver for 10 months.

so far through my dad with 5 yers no claimes we got 1500 and 1800...

would it be a better quote if it was through my mum with 15 years no claims?

how much better if so?

Well unfortunatly insurance companies are nto stupid.

You are as above possibly voiding your insurance by insuring under a parents name when they are not the main driver.

Just bite the bullet and go in your name. If you cant afford to then hold off really. Otherwise you run the risk of being cought or biting you back in the long run.

try green light insurance most companies wanted 1500 plus for me on a sport greenlight did it for just over 700. tescos is always good for young drivers.

I had an 1.6 16v Escort, I changed the wheels, suspension, exhaust and a few engine mods.

It cost me the same money the insure the 172 without no mods as the Escort with mods.

Your better off getting a standard car as your probably get an 1.6 Clio for the same price on insurance.

like someone already said, insurance companies aren't stupid. Even if you put your parents down as the main driver (which you shouldn't cos in the event of a claim they could refuse to pay out) then they will still base most of the premium on the youngest and most in experienced driver.

I got my 1.8 Rsi fully comp at £1800 when I was 18 with 1 years no claims.

Your better off in the long run going on your own policy because when you get older and want faster cars you'll have your own no-claims bonus in the bank ready to use, assuming you don't crash to often that is!!

I'm an insurance broker by the way!
