Trouble starting on a ph1

  145db Euro'd clio
mk2. 1.2
Starts okay most of the time, but occasionally when you turn the key it just makes a clicking sound and doesnt even turn over, but then if you turn the key off and try again it works.

Anyway, the battery run flat afrter standing for a month or two as the battery itself is about 5 years old. so i got a new one, fitted it correctly and the car just would not start. so i changed it back to the old battery. charged it for a few hours and it started. tested the new battery and it has full charge and there is nothing wrong with acid levels etc.

Just wondering if anyone has had any similar problems?
i remember reading somewere that it might be the female connector on the started motor or something?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!
thanks

i had this problem about 2 weeks ago, i got an auto-electrician out to my car and i found that my car was not properly earthed and this meant that it could not be started. You either have 1 of 2 possible options:

1. car is not properly earthed so you get an auto-electrician out and it costs about 120 quid and now my car works first time no bother

2.starter motor is on the way out

go for the first option first, but when phoning out an auto-electrician always ask for a quote for the work before they come out

hope that helps
