Tunepoint and iPhone 3g

Does anyone know if a Tunepoint will charge an iPhone 3g?

Hmmm the connectors the same is it??

Providing it supplies the same voltage as the normal iPhone charger I can't see a problem???

I have a Renault Tunepoint car kit. iPhone original and 3g both didn’t charge through it, but 3g under 2.1 suddenly does. Very strange. I know 3g has dropped firewire charge support common in car kits, but neither iPhone charged so I’m not convinced this was the issue. Perhaps greater backward compatibility with previous 3rd party accessories? Strangely, the nag screen about non-compatibility still appears though… All said, very unexpectedly pleased.

I found that too. I'll give it a go tonight before buying an in car charger.

Found this earlier: "No its annoying really, the iphone orginal charged of the 12v firewire pins, however *** 3g version charges over the 5v usb pins."

Yeah I read that earlier but couldn't find it again when I looked... I thought I had imagined I read it!

Weird why the 3g and normal ones are different.. you'd of thought they would of used some form of conformity!

Bonus, it works. The phone suggests I put it in flight mode as the device isn't supported, but I ignored that. It charges fine, so that's saved me £20. The screen shows it's connected too, but as I've not got any music on the phone I don't know if that works, not that it matters as I have a USB memory stick in there for music.

Just in case anyone else is interested, the Tunepoint won't play music off an iPhone 3g. Maybe it will with the adaptor, but I've not got one to try. At least it charges it, which is all I'm concerned with at the moment.
