tyres type/speed rating

Hi, I am looking for 2 new 185/55r15s and after a while and please nobody mention toyos because I am not getting them (they are only £42 but not available on mytyres till the end of feb and I dont care too much about going really fast in dry Id rather have wet grip)

Anyway, I found Firestone Firehawks for £40 (for H) or £46 for (v) which is very reasonable and some reviews I found on imoc.co.uk/tyres suggested they were brilliant grip wet/dry low noise and VERY hard wearing.... 30/40,ooo miles!! (I guess they are taking corners very gently) but all the reviews seemes good giving them 10pts every time when yokos and toyos were not always!

Has anyone got these or tried them?? Whats your opinion?

PS any reason to go for V over H if I do not intend to go faster than 80/90?

I had the Firestones on my 106 GTi and they were very good, even in the wet!

Deffo go for these mate, I was very impressed with them and theyre cheap!

As for speed ratings, H is up to 130mph and V is up to 150mph, so you only need H rated tyres.

All,

Ratings at not only for speed, but torque.

However, forgetting all that. Renault specify VR and if you were to have an accident the first thing an insurance company is going to say is you do not have satisfactory tyres; ie youre not insured!

Hope this helps

i had firestone firehawks on fiesta (with xr2i alloys) before i got my clio,

and it handled brilliantly the grip was excellent , my mum has them on her focus any they are very good on that aswell.

basically get whats recommended for your car or above, it doesnt matter if you have a higher rated tyre that whats recommended, but it does if its below the recommended rating.

Im sure it came with H rated and I figure since I am only changing two tyres I might aswell just get H again - for the moment.

Clio007 - I dont think that they do rainsports in 185/55 only Rallye or something like that.

Thanks for your replies, I will probably get the firehawks. They do offer sz40 firestones aswell though, cant c much about them, only £6 more. but that doesnt always mean better, dunlop sp200s are £60odd and supposed to be awful I think.
