TYRES!!!!

  Clio 172
Hi Guys,

I am at a bit of a dilema. I have just bought some wheels for track use and I am after some tyres. I currently run a mix of Uniroyal rainsport on the front and PE2's on the rear. However after my last trip to Donington the outer edge of my tyres took a real battering so I am looking for something a bit more substantial. I have considered the RSR's and can afford a set but I was wondering if there is a more sensible option than £300 for four tyres. Any suggestions for tyres with hard sidewalls that are good for track days?

Buy the cheapest rubber you can. Budgets offer no grip at all as they are usually hard as granite and will last at least 100,000 miles on the road.

Spend the cash on track tuition ;)

Perhaps :rasp:

However, grippy tyres are soft tyres.... geo needs sorting if it's so bad it's eating a set of tyres in a track day or the driver needs sorting out.

to be fair from what i saw he drives well, at least at oulton he did. For a good compromise over cost/performance i personally would get some second hand 888's or rsr's, if used for trackdays only?

Thanks Dan and Mr Giraffe for the sound advice. I have rushed out and bought a set of ditch finder Nankangs and the rest on tuition.

Not really :rasp:

I just bought the RSR's, having considered it and weighed up the options for one day a month the RSR's will do the job and if they do me for 6/7 track days its £50 for tyres a day and that I can afford.

Thanks again :D
