I run Xp on my Pc and dont know much about computers, is it worth using this, looks cool. I just use Firefox/word/xcel and word documents no gaming/programming etc!! Just wondered if theres any benefit of it?

As a long time Linux user (10+ years now), on both the desktop and now mainly server environments, my honest opinion is - No.. stick with XP or get Vista if you want to change. :)

If you want something which feels a bit like Linux, get a Mac running OSX.. much better for desktop stuff.

lol i went into PcWorld and saw a mac and it looked quite cool tbh i liked the way it did stuff. Maybe when this PC dies i will get one, cant really justify the £900 asking price for it when theres nothing wrong with current PC

tbh i've been using ubuntu for about 10 months now and it has really grown on me

i've just bought a new laptop and it came with vista and the first thing i did was put ubuntu on it so i can boot vista or ubuntu

it does run so much better in ubuntu than vista.

so i'd say try it with a live cd and it runs ok and you feel like it install it so you can dual boot.

Linux to look cool with your geeky friends ;) If you only use them applications then I'm sure XP can handle it without issues - why change?

If it ain't broke etc etc

As a long term Linux user (10.5 + years now (thats a whole .5 better lol ;))) I would recommend you try Ubuntu. Its faster, more secure, friendly and you wont have to touch a terminal unless you want to.

And if you do run into any problems there is a massive community of friendly people who will gladly offer their help. Use the Live CD and you wont even have to install it, sure it wont run as fast as if you install it, but if you dont like it you take the disc out the cd tray and reboot and your back to your original OS.

I got pissed off with my folks telling me their computer was broken again.. so while they werent looking I installed Ubuntu on it... that was about 2 years ago now and they didn't even notice lol..

You can also pretty much forget about viruses and spyware pish.
