Unblocking Mobiles

A mate is selling a Nokia n96 but its on 3. Im on vodafone and want to know can i get it unblocked? also once its unblockes can it then be blocked by 3?

They can't relock it. I think its illegal to be unlocked via soldering, that's how the little shops/stalls do it. Some may use software now. But normally can be unlocked for a fee to the original operator company, around £15-20.

Some wont unlock until a certain date, unsure why, may just be dependant on how new the phone is, ie. from release date.
