unchip fitted today

  20VT Clio & 9-5 HOT

Sweet that is good mate. Thought urs was a bit underpowered before the chip! Obviously not!

no very pleased was a wary of gettin it unichipped but glad i did now i would reccomend it to anyone but remember every car is different but i will guarantee you will feel a difference no matter what you got standard or with mods.

Craigy, what mods have you got before the chip?

Can the unichip be reprogrammed if you have mods afterwards?
Can if be removed if taking the car to Renault?

had a magnex zorst viper thats it, the unichip can reprogrammed at any time you want, eg if you unichip your car standard the decide you want an ik just go back and they reprogramme it.

yes it can be removed it just goes back to what it was and you can take the chip if you sell your car and put it in your new car and reprogramme it to your new car.

hope this helps:)

Great, thanks for that - sounds very tempting.

Did you find any increase from the viper? Ive heard that many IKs etc make the car actually slower?

Do Unichip have a UK website? Interested to see if there are any approved distributors up here in Scotland. Ive currently got a MK2 172 with Magnex and 57i so looking for a good remap. Ive had good results with Superchips in the past but on standard turbo cars. Dont think Superchip will be that good for a modded car as their maps are set up for the average standard tune. Cheers, Neil

Yep, Ive emailed them too. But I might wait until Ive had a few mods before getting it fitted. Would like to get my car RRd first too.

to my knowledge, no 172 is pushing out 172bhp which is slightly worrying
Then I must be lucky because at 5k miles on my Mk2 172 on BB Tunings RR, my 172 recorded 172bhp and 150lb/ft torque ATF. Spot on!

Some information I got from Unichip.

As you are probably already aware the Unichip is a piggy back computer, that works in harmony with your standard ECU, it is mapped specifically to your car, and allows the operator to program it exactly to suit the thousands of differences from one car to next, that pre-programmed chips cant take into account, such as cam timing, manufacturing tolerances, different fuel qualities and pressures, and any aftermarket components. Therefore we dont really go in for saying what power increase you will get, instead what we do promise is that at full throttle you will have the maximum power available safely, and at part throttle the car will be as economical as possible. At the end of the day, all any chip or engine management system is doing is to provide the correct amount of fuel in relationship to the amount of air being consumed, and ignite it at the correct time, so provided that they are equally accurate, they should all come out with the same result, providing they are mapped to the individual engine in question by a competent tuner on an accurate dyno. This is where the Unichip wins, as they are not for sale pre-programmed, but mapped to each car by a skilled tuner on a dynamometer, we dont supply Unichips to anyone who doesnt own their own dyno. If at any time in the future, any changes are made i.e. cams, headwork etc. simply pop back into any authorised Unichip dealer, where the Unichip can be remapped to suit.

The Unichip offers more than just timing and fuel adjustments, we can do more than most sub £1000 race ecus (this is ECU only, not including mapping costs!), such as launch control, shift lights, variable cam control, full throttle gear changes, nitrous control, ignition correction when nitrous is activated, etc..

The UNICHIP can be used for the following functions:

° Alter ignition timing in a 3D map down to 0.1degree resolution.
° Alter fuel mixture in a 3D map by +-50%.
° Control variable valve timing.
° Control variable induction systems.
° Control turbo wastegate solenoid systems.
° Record maximum boost pressure.
° Record maximum RPM.
° Water injection control.
° Nitrous oxide control.
° Automatic secondary map when water or nitrous is active.
° Automatic switch back to primary map when water or nitrous is low or de-activated
° Road speed governor delimiting.
° Calibration of electronic speedometers.
° Conversion of electronic speedometers from KMH to MPH.
° Drive additional fuel injectors, with variable blend control.
° Launch control.
° Full throttle gear changes.
° Idle speed stabilization.
° Conversion to individual throttle bodies on certain cars.
° Conversion of mechanical injection systems to full 3D fuel & ignition control.
° Conversion from flap type Air Flow meters to less restrictive Hot Film meters.
° Multiple maps to suit different fuels.
° Shift lights
° Alter or implement rev limits
° Alter or implement boost limits

So what happens to warranty and would Renault ever know of the Unichip when coming round for servicing and MOT?

Cheers

The unichip is removable and the car returns to standard. However if you are contemplating such mods, you should be aware that Reno could give you some trouble and blame engine probs etc on the changes. Unfortunately we cant have our cake and eat it...

SOAPSUDS i know the bloke that services my car so im ok, but if something goes wrong with yaour car think your warranty will be void and u will have to pay, make the mods after the warranty has finished, i know most of the people at my renault garage the bloke in charge who does all the work for me he drives clios on the circuit so he knows all about them but he still does all the mods for me, if i didnt know him i would be taking a big risk with all the mods i got.

does anyone know if there is anywhere in yorkshire that does this unichip fitting,i want one for my mk1 172 ,bit worrying to think that the car may not have power thats stated, then again i used to have a saxo vts mk2 which was quick and the clio 172 is noticably faster so i cant be too down on bhp if at all.

im going to velos motorsport at the end of the month. only 50 mile from between chesterfield and sheffield! Cheapest too

i did not want to make you look too silly, i zoomed past ya twice and was right up ya arse at 1 point but had to think of my petrol, but will admit it is quite quick for the valver and ok ben cause its green ;)

Question for you all? What benefit would I get in chipping a 1.2 16v?? now I assume its not really worth it as the engines too small, but would really like to improve a little performance.
