Uneven ride height.

  1995 Mondeo Speed Machine

I got my car lowered ages ago and its never sat level, i.e one side is higher than the other.

Picture one is how I want it to be, picture 2 shows the side that is higher. Its not too obvious in the pics but if you look where the sidewalls end you can see the difference. Its the same at the front and the back. If its any help, its the left side which is higher. I though it could be that the torsion bar wasnt adjusted correctly on one side, but I thought this would make the handling a bit dodgy.

Anyways if any can shed any light on what could cause this it would be much appreciated.

it is possible to get the torsion bars out of allignment. you got any side pics of the car so its easier to see the difference.

Unfortunately I dont have any side on shots and its too dark now to get any decent pics. Ill get some full shots of the whole car tomorrow.

As for getting the torsion bar out of alignment, is there any way of fixing this without it costing an arm and a leg, or is it one of those things Ill just have to live with...

I have the same problem on my RT it sits higher on the left hand side. Im trying to find out if it has been previously lowered and then put back to standard by the previous owner. Im looking into getting it lowered on coilovers in a few weeks and was hoping this would solve the problem. I also considered that it might be the torsion bar or maybe something to with a twisted sub frame although im sure this would affect the handleing badly.

Ive got exactly the same issue with my rt!

I got the rear lowered first, then drove home and fitted the front, then I realised that the back left hand side was slightly higher than the right!

So spoke to the guy and he assured me and said that he just lowered it 40mm from the origonal ride height and showed me the calculations!

He reckoned that the factory setting for each side must be a 5mm difference, dont know why!

So I can either take mine back to him and hell sort it, or leave it!

But if he sorts it will it affect my handling at all?

have you had any arch work done matE? because i did and when lowering even tho they were lowered the same on both sides it looked lower on one where the monkey who did the body work didnt curve the metal properly (it was nothing drastic just slight)

Im pretty sure my RT is still at factory settings, so the fact that it is higher on the rear left must have been something renault did to the settings for some reason. Im pretty sure it wont affect your handleing my simply lowering the high side slightly to match the low side. At least not to a great affedt that you would notice it on road use or even fast road use.

Anyone else any ideas of what this uneven ride height is all about? Or is it just simply a factory setting? And will having it lowered to make it even affect the handling badly at all?

i think its factory, u dont notice it on your normal steels coz of the such a large gap and those big profiles.

when i lowered my rear torsion bar i made measure ments before hand i think the drivers side was 7mm lower than the other side (thought it was strange at time) lowered it any thinking it would right its self. the gap still the same even tho been lowered 30mm. might have another play with it at weekend see if i can get exact measurements outta each side. but its fiddly old job. dropping it is pieice of piss but if u want exact ride height each side and to match the front then ur talking alot of fiddling about.
