Unknown noise

Hi every one I have bought myself a 172 in flame in great condition apart from a noise from the rear of the engine bay which sounds like metal on metal , I have checked all heat shields , I have also poly bushed the engine mounts to eliminate those , can any plz help as the noise is getting worse

a clunk or a rattle or a buzz?
at a certain RPM?
does it sound like your exhaust is touching the gearbox?
I believe there is a gearbox mount that can allow enough movement to touch the exhaust when it's old and exhaust rubbers are known to go.
Or is it a clunk only at low speed, as you start to move? maybe more noticeable as you go over sudden small bumps like a pot hole or a not quite flush drop kerb?
If it's that kind of clunky noise I think it's common for wishbone bolts to loosen?

Could try the old trick of undoing the engine mount bolts and pulling the engine as far forward as you can before doing them back up.
