upgrading to leather interior - help with inserting lol

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
I have a cup 172 (please before the people say why have you..... I wanted leather ok !! lol )

yea, so ive gota full leather interior on the way - im handy at fitting stuff and will solve all that, however, how do the electronics work - i have cup seats now with no air bags, i'm going to be putting seats in with airbags, will the one lead that is under my seat now just plug into the leather seat and be fine ??

i dont want anything going bang when i unplug the sensors under the seats, so am i best to disconect the battery and leaving it for an hour before i start ?

also: this will just help me:
when i'm taking the seats out of the car do i unbolt the seat from the subframe (surely its under the seat and bolts hard to be got at)

or

do i take the subframe out of the car while the seat is still attached to it ??

and finally, i take it the subframe does come away from the actual seat with the side plastics and the seat belt fastner

sorry for 100 questions, ive not even looked at the seats yet, wanted a bit of info before i even look, thanks, ben

leather should arrive tomorrow :D (ebays great :rasp: haha)

where you from mate?

anyway this old turnip hey, well this is a different situation as its going into a cup. obviously you dont have seat airbag so dont need to worry about that plug not that I can remember which one it is now.

EvilJohn has written up a guide but I'm not sure where it is.

the easiest way to do it is just undo the 4 nut from the frame bolts which are located under the car, 2 of which a hidden by rubber bungs iirc and then just drop the new ones in.

the other plug is for the seat belt pretentioners which you should be able to just plug in, but depending on what seats your getting the plugs might be different so a simple connection would have to be made.

Hi mate, I am from wigan - thanks for the speedy reply

My cups an 03 and the seats came from a 03 172

i dont mind driving without the airbags being functional - just as long as they dont go off lol

ahh right so the bolt nuts for the subframes are actually under the car ?? gulp lol

The new seats are coming with the subframes and seat belt pretensioners, plastics all on - i just didnt know how they got them out the car tho.

thanks, ben

yeah theres a few of us done it now. I jacked it up a bit and sent my mate under there as I'm not into all that dirty mechanics stuff lol.

John should see this and post his guide there cos, easier to see how to get everything out with that. are you getting the new door cards too?

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
yea its coming with door cards, are these tricky to put in ? i had a 106gti and they were on and off more times than i can remember (faulty window motor) just simple screws ??

  Golf GTI 1.8T
yeah just as easy, change them in about 5 mins.

pull off the plastic strip up the side of the window, then pull off the triangle plastic bit at the mirror (might need a screwdriver behind it).

then undo the door handle with the larger torx bit. then the door card inserts with a smaller torx bit.

then pull the speaker cover off, and undo the torx screws (4 of)

then undo all the small torx screws at the bottom of your door (4 of)

pull from the bottom and side to unclip it off the panel clips, this will be quite hard if they havent come off before because of the glue. then they door card lifts up off of a rail at the top.

:) hope that helps

just been out for a propper look now - found the 4 bolts, looks straight forward, also saw the conections for the seatbelt so obviously there a simple change over (grey clip)

and also saw another conection, im guessing airbag - this connection was blanked off (black clip) obviously there is some kind of resistor in that to complete the circuit and trick the car into thinking the airbag conection is there - so i will just plug in the airbag conection into there - but to be honest i will probably just leave it be and conect the seat belt ones haha

cheers for your help
