Urban Myth

Morning Guys

I know this may well start a war but....

Is it just a myth that Mk1 172s are faster than Mk2s? How noticeable is it?

[Edited by bigsi on 13 August 2004 at 9:02am]

your right, the Mk1 172 is by far the quickest and the most superior. Theres no myth or even no argument here. End of discussion.

I p/xd my old Mk1 172 for a 182. My 172 felt faster and more raw, although handling is nowhere near as good as my Cupped 182.

hmm some of u i think are in dreamland half the time it would be so marginal you wouldnt phisically be able to notice it but because it says so on paper suddenly u think you can notice it unbelieveable

i mustnt be a good driver then :(

MUhahhahahahahah feeell the powwwwaaaa of my MK2 172 :devilish: :devilish: :devilish:

I think EVO timed it slightly quicker (point of a natts chuff!!) and they said it was better to drive...

...cups rule though LOL.

My old Mk1s acceleration was more violent and sudden. Now my 182 is just as quick but is much smoother and more refined acceleration. All the ClioSports are practically the same - points of a second difference. Just different characteristics which make them feel either quicker, slower etc. Either way they are all the dogs b*ll*cks and nowt touches them for fun.

IMO.

The mk1 is meant to be the best drive out of them all.
Erm.... who said? Have you driven them all? The mk1 falls some way behind in the handling dept imho......

True, the Mk1s handling is inferior to the 182 and the 172Cup and more than likely the standard Mkll172, BUT, its still a f*cking great car. I had one. Ive now got a 182 and can see positives and negatives in the Mk1 and the 182.

My friend also has a Cup, which Ive driven, and I have to say there are things about that that I prefer to my 182 and things that I dont like as much compared to the Mk1. I reckon that the handling of a Cup is better than my 182 with Cup pack. There might be no difference at all, its just that I thought I could feel a difference. All the Mks have postitives and negatives over all of their namesakes.

As I mentioned above, they are all much of a muchness and instead of haggling, debating, comparing and trying to disect 0.5 seconds here and there, why dont we just enjoy the bloody things!!

Civic Type what?...... Cooper what?...... Pug GTwhat?

Cause other than the type rs they all keep breaking down and falling to bits lol (french ya see)

I dont think there a "real" difference in ant IMHO,i think its more down to wallet size and personal taste, which ever model you get you wont be dissapointed...

ian

just get the one you like the look of! they all do the same thing - i dont even think moneys an issue ian i could have had a 172/182 by now but im sticking with the valver for a bit

id have a silver or green exclusive mk1 out of all of them but the 182 racing blues growing on me!

always fancied a mk1 172 with coilovers - dont know why!

Back to the original question:

Theres very very very very very little in it. So that makes it almost a myth.

The end.
