urgent help - car wont start UCH?

  Focus RS Mk1
hi all.

ok, been using the clio mk2 172 sport 2002 all day today.

my new headunit arrived so i turn off car. keys out.

remove std headunit, put new pioneer one in. headunit works happy days.

go to start car. nothing.

no electricals work whatso ever. only the stereo!

now ive read some stuff on this UCH unit.

ive disconnected battery and left it off n then reconnected it. no luck

ive pull out the three plugs for the UCH unit and then plugged them back in.

no luck.

all the fuses are in tact, none blown.

whats the problem? all i did was disconnect the HU and then re connect the other one, and its stopped working all toghether!

this is urgent as i need the car, no time to waste. thanks

When you turn the ignition on, does the red dot in the middle flash, stay on constant or go out?

  Focus RS Mk1
doesnt do anything. so not an immobilser fault.

all the lights on the dash come on as normal. then go to turn the key and nothing, no clicking so its not a battery fault either.

something has triggered it to not work...

If you turn the key round to start the car fast does it crank for about 2 seconds? Ie dont go to ignition, then try to turn it over....

more than likely to have upset a connector behind the dash, were you brutal with it?

  Focus RS Mk1
nope, nothing.engine doesnt turn a mm. starter motor doesnt activate, cant hear fuel pump primin. literally nothing, 100% silent.

only thing that works is stereo and all the dash light.

when i do try to turn it over as i would when starting the car the service light flashes

  Focus RS Mk1
as i said, literally used the car just before turning it off. no problems at all. car is always looked after, never had a problem.

  Focus RS Mk1
it took a little pushing but i took out the instrument panel above the stereo to make sure no wires were being trapped.

to get that out it meant i had to take off the three switches on that panel breifly, will that have upset it?

i had a very similar problem in a mates Astra, there had been an over load somewhere and the key imobiliser had reset! not sure if Clio's are the same but just an idea 4 u!!

  Focus RS Mk1
think it might be an AA job, i cant see why anything would reset if it was just a simple HU was swap over...

  Focus RS Mk1
yeah tried that, wont work either. even tried my brothers old old clio key ;)

took HU out again to cjeck for any wire damage, nothing, not even a nick in a wire! i made sure i didnt squash anything.

how frustrating. AA on route!!! gay!

Did you disconnect the battery when fitting it? Quite possible you've damaged something that way if you haven't.

Are all the engine bay fuses intact?

The immobiliser wiring is located behind that panel where the hazard switch etc is so it may be possible you've upset something back there?
My mate had his '06 plate clio broken into and in the process of them rippin the headunit out to steal they burst off the panel where the hazard switch is. My mate had trouble afterwards getting it to start and once it did couldnt drop below 3k revs on the move or it would cut out.
Wasn't till it went for repair he was told the immobiliser wiring is behind there, don't know if this is any help.

Sounds exactly like what happened to me! Theres a thread somewhere! ended up being a 5amp fuse that had blown somewhere!! i cant remember which one it was tho :S

  Focus RS Mk1
hi all,

as i stated above i checked the fuses, i thought id check the relevant ones...alarm,immobilser, etc etc!

checked everything else everyone said...still nothing.

so AA man arrives...he is a little baffled too as to why it would happen after just a HU change.

He said "just as a precaution i'll go through all the fuses"

picked out a blown one. tunred out to be the central locking fuse! it knocked out the entire car!!! one measly little 5amp fuse!!! felt like a right nob gettin the AA out to change a fuse!!! lol

Anyway, he said that it does happen, he also mentioned that on the Daewoo's the whole car is hooked into the cigarette lighter fuse!!! lol

So all sorted now. Decided not to fit the new headunit as i need a ariel pin and a cable to allow me to use the 6cd changer. so id just have to remove it all again!

So anyone who has this problem. go through every fuse n check them!

problem solved :)

My car won't start this morning!!!!!!!!! The Missus had to take me to work.

It was fine last night but when i went to start it at 0615 this morning there was nothing. The stereo came on, all the dash lights came on, the red light went out after a couple seconds but nothing happened when the key was turned.

The only thing i'm hopefull of is that i know the hazard light switch doesn't work so maybe theres a loose connection behind there.

Anyway, i'm just about to call the AA from work and see what they can find, it needs to move as it's illegally parked.

I'll keep you updated...

According to the AA man it is the starter motor. He says it is a common fault as they overheat next to the exhaust. I'm still at work so i haven't seen it myself yet but i plan on getting my head under the bonnet on the weekend.

Until then i'll be giving it a love tap each morning

  Focus RS Mk1
sounds exactly the same as what mine did, does your lights n everything else work though?

Yep,everything works as normal but there is no response from under the bonnet at all when you turn the key.

I had to bump start it in the rain at 6am this morning to get to work...not good!
