Hi Guys,

I am really struggling at the minute, i cleared down all my internet files and now i can't access some sites.
For example i can get onto google but when ever i search for something it loads a white screen and just says connecting until it times out. But if i do a product search on google it returns the search.
I can't get onto Facebook, and when i try to log into the renaultsport forum it doesn't let me, just loads a white screen.

Does anyone know what to do, as i can't even search google to help:dapprove:

Thanks in advance

Joe

  Better than yours. C*nt.
If you hadn't posted on here I'd have said you couldn't actually get on the internet, you were looking at cached pages.

DNS maybe, although again that would stop everything.

Go to your command prompt (Start - Run - type: CMD - Enter)

Type:

ping www.google.com

Let me know what it says.
If destination can not be reached

type: ping 216.239.59.99

Let me know the results

Thanks Longy,
I can't copy and paste the results though and can't get onto photobucket to load the picture.
Also i can actually get onto the google first page it is just when i try to search it fails.
Either way the results are:
Pinging www.1.google.com {66.102.9.104} with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 66.102.9.104: byets=32 time=47ms TTL=239
Reply from 66.102.9.104: byets=32 time=44ms TTL=239
Reply from 66.102.9.104: byets=32 time=45ms TTL=239
Reply from 66.102.9.104: byets=32 time=43ms TTL=239

Ping statistics for 66.102.9.104:
Packets: Sent = 4, Recieved = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Aproximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 43ms, Maximum = 47ms, Average = 44ms

The results looks very similar when i typed ping 216.239.59.99
so i don't think i need to write it out.

Thanks for your help.

As i said above i can load the first page of google but i cannot load any searches other than the shopping searches.
I don't think it will be an ISP problem as there are 2 other computers in my house that still work.
It is such a strange problem.

have you tried clearing your cache ? i have no idea if it will work but you could give it a go, or try the repair option for your network if your on windows that resets a load of stuff ?

I have just done that and it says:
Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the
following action cannot be completed:
Clearing the DNS cache

For assistance, contact the person who manages your network.

Now i can access the router if that can help but i don't know what that means.
Any help?

  Titanium 182
Well it means that it can't clean your DNS cache, DNS is (not 100% on this cant remember from class)

Domain name system or something basically the thing that converts the web adress or url you type (or search) into an ip address. Try resetting your router and if that doesn't work it might be a waiting thing im afraid.

But don't take what i say as gospel im only an apprentice and not a very good one at that ! :(

Haha, can't remeber lol.
You seem to be a very good apprentice to me.
This is what my router said about DNS:
"DNS = Domain Name Server. A server located on the Internet that translates URL's (Universal Resource Links). Like www.belkin.com to IP address."
You almost got it word for word.

Thanks for the help mate.

I have just reset my router but it doesn't seem to have changed.
Oh well looks like i may have to wait.
Or it could be an excuse for a new computer.

Edit: Haha coursework is so boring though, i don't blame you
Thanks again

Damn right its boring!

I dont think its your computer, its most likely your ISP DNS has a problem at the moment although if your saying your other computers work then it seems very strange :S

Before you give up try this

C:\> ipconfig /flushdns

In command prompt mate.

It could also be a problem with your internet security, are you on norton ? try a cheeky disable for a minuite be sure to run a load of scans afterwards tho!

It is saying that:
'C:\' is not recognised as a internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

I have got McAfee virus protection.

I got rid of the C:\ and it then said:
Windows IP Configuration
Could not flush the DNS Resolver Cache: Function failed during execution

I then tried it again and the same appeared.

This is starting to be a bit annoying now:mad:

Not you just my shitty laptop:mad:

Thanks again.

It is an internal network card.
The worst thing is is that some sites work and then others don't.
I would prefer it if none of them did as i am sure it would be easier to fix.

  Titanium 182
Internal ones can break too :)

tbh it will probably be fixed it you try it again tomorrow lol, mines has done it before and just turning it off and leaving it seemed to fix it :S wierd as fork i know. I came to the conclusion it was something to do with my ISP...

Yeah sorry, i knew they could break, jsut that it would be harder to replace:eek:

And it has now been like it for about a week though, but hopefully i will turn it on tomorrow and all will be fixed, magically:approve:

  A blue one.
if you can ping stuff then you can send/receive packets so it's not a hardware fault.

Repair windows by booting from the windows cd, something bad has happened to your install by the sounds of it.

  Fiesta ST
go to command prompt again and try this:

type:

ipconfig /flushdns

does it give you a error?

Can you also just type: ipconfig /all

and take a screenshot please of the result

Have you removed Norton recently?

If its the problem I'm thinking it might be - we might have to try repair your winsock.

I've had a couple of PC's this week with a similar error.

  Better than yours. C*nt.
Go to Start: Run:
Type in 'services.msc'
Partway down the list will be 'DNS Client' - double-click this and ensure it's set to start 'Automatically'. Click on 'Stop', then after a few seconds click on 'Start'. See if that fixes it. I get your error if I do 'ipconfig /flushdns' whilst the DNS Client Service is stopped. Tis easy when you've got it in front of you to diagnose!

Tisn't winsock - it sounds like DNS. Bearing in mind the more you use an entry, the longer it keeps it in the resolver cache :)

I agree but its funny I've had the same problem this week, and redoing the winsock sorted it after all the DHCP services and DNS etc where loading fine - maybe due to the TCP/IP stack being reinstalled.

Possibly. Again, unusual problem though. Must have been on a properly dodgy p**n site to get that one!

I have done this and it was set to stop. It doesn't seem to have fixed the problem though.

Thanks guys for all the above ideas i am trying to work my way through them now. :D

Go to your internet options in IE and check your connection settings for a proxy? It might be that something changed your proxy settings. It should not have one listed.

The ipconfig/all results were:
Windows IP Configuration
Host Name . . . JoeLaptop
Primary Dns suffix . . . (Blank, there is nothing there)
Node Type . . . Uknown
IP routing enabled . . . No
WINS Proxy Enabled . . . No

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:
Connection Specific DNS Suffix . . . (Blank again)
Description . . . acer IPN2220 Wireless LAN card
Physical Address . . . ************
Dhcp Enabled . . . Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . Yes
IP Address . . . ********
And i don't think i should post the rest on the internet. But it all looks to make sense.
Any help would be amazing
