Is it possible to turn the standard immobilisor off on a 16V? My battery in my key has gone!

Yes but it involves removing the whole alarm setup.

Check in the glovebox by the light or in the engine bay next to the washer bottle depending on age of car, should be a keyhole in one of those places.
