USB Diagnostic Cable - which one?

  Ph2 Clio 172
I would like to get one of the USB diagnostic cables that allows you to connect a laptop to the diagnostics port and read and clear codes and other things, however I am very confused as to what to get. My car is an 02 Phase2 172. I have searched and found some people saying ODB2, then others saying ODB2 won't work, and there also appears to be different pin layouts for different cables. Anyone got one that works and can let me know the model number?

Cheers

What software are you using please?

I used to use VAGCOM on my VWs, but doubt this will work on my Clio.

Thanks

I'd wait for the new Elm329 myself as it has the new CanBus equiped chipset meaning it can access more modes and so access more systems than just the EM side.

No-one is exactly sure though a few have made there way out of China to these shores as some software is now releasing updates that support it (FiatECUScan being one).

Ok. Got a USB ELM327 up and working.

Any suggestions for good software to use it with? The stuff that came with the cable looks to all be demos and trials.

There's not really much difference between the various Elm software i'm afraid... ability wise they're all equally limited to the few modes that ELM327 can access but graphically some are better than others.

Personally, I like the look of ScanMaster over most
