USB External Hard Drive and Xbox 360

Car  Pink & Blue 182, JDM DC2
Sadly both my USB external drives don't seem to compatible with the 360. When I go into "Media" and into "Music" I only get 2 options - Hard Drive and Computer.

Anyone had problems with this? I've got a Buffalo Link Station as well as a Toshiba PC World special.

Ta for any help, both work fine when connected to my PC.

lmao i just plugged my phone into the usb port and it's playing songs off the memory card:S:S:S

I'll try mine tomorrow (WD 80G USB) but I've got a feeling there's a size limit for devices connected directly to the 360. How big are the drives? Have you tried a USB Key or an MP3 player to see if it will actually detect any other devices?

if u have a usb stick that also works in the port.....

my 1gb stick is quite useful for moving music onto the 360

Darth,

What's on the drives? The 360 only 'sees' Media such as music and photos so if there's none on the drive, it won't show up.

Edit: We do mate! I actually live in Leigh, but no one will have heard of that so it's easier to say Tonbridge

Seems to be it can only read FAT32 drives and not NTFS ;)

Edit: Music and pictures bud

I noticed that too, I'd guessed the drives would be FAT32 formatted. Hmmm, I'd guess it's the size issue then. The XBox.com servers seem to have fallen over so I can't check the forums there. Monkeynuts!!

Doh. I found a thread out there about it. I can use something like knoppix (linux shell) to reformat my 320GB hard drive in FAT32 format so its not the end of the world. Obviously if I did it through Windows it would only have a max 32GB limit.

Backup contents, format, redump it back on, ta da. Shame its only music and pics vides would be nice but heyho.

I don't have a linux box so I'd have to go the 3rd Party Format tool route - actually, that's a point - will the 360 see multiple partitions on a drive? That gets over the FAT32 limit doesn't it?

I don't know mate but i'll find out. I have a knoppix live cd I can boot from to see how it turns out. more later.
