v6 as an everday car

  Embarrassed to say

Can a v6 be used as an everyday car or is it one of those cars like the vx220 that is more prevalent to weekend use?

  Embarrassed to say

I ask because supposedly there are huge discounts to be had on the v6 255 so I’m slightly tempted however do I need to keep a 172 for everyday use and a v6 for weekend fun. Not bothered about the boot space, just whether its driveable and durable enough to withstand the daily grind.

  Embarrassed to say

A brand new v6 255, I am told you can get nearly 7k off the dealer price for a Renault sourced UK car. I saw it in the cup blue colour and haven’t stopped thinking about it since although I’d prefer black.

Dont you still think thats expensive for a car like that though? I think the 172 & 182s are priced right but the new V6 is just a joke I think

  Embarrassed to say

Yeah as a weekend car I would rather have a used z3m. If a v6 was an easy car to use everyday I’d be really tempted. I think for a mid engined v6 clio, £21k is quite cheap.

Use mine every day, 36K in the last 18 months.

Main problem is turning circle, mainly when you have past the turning and try and swing round in the main road.

Yeah but the the 172s turning circle isnt exactly fantasic is it ??

Turning circle shouldnt put you off buying a car !! After all it has got power steering.

I recon that it is definatly an everyday car.

If youre not bothered about boot space (which is actually plenty big enough for a weekend or even a week away) then yes.

  182

Are the running that much higher than a 182 for instance?

I mean i expect it to be but how much more to keep it maintained......

  Clio v6

I used my V6 as an every night car. Yes the turning circle is awkward at times, but who turns their car so many times in one journey to make it that much of a problem?

I believe tyres and brake pads are a fair bit more expensive than a 172 etc. The joy and feel ( not speed ) of the V6 is more than worth this bit extra.

If you are concerned about the servicing costs, maybe you should plan to have the full retail price of the car, and put what ever savings you make to one side. Allow yourself worry free fun for a couple of years. Even a 182 would be no fun on a tight budget.

Space? I once did a full family shop at Waitrose in the V6. Although not the tidiest, it wasnt impossible to fit eight bags full in.

ICE ? In the freezer where it belongs:D

When they had one on Top Gear they said the turning circle is like that of an oiltanker.
The turning circle is around 13 metres kerb to kerb I believe, most hatches are around 10m??

So its slightly more than most, but not quite the 3 miles of an oil tanker...lol

Yes you could use it for everyday use.

I dont because I have kids and need 4 seats for everyday use, but my parents have the kids at the weekend and we go out in the V6 255...plently of room in the boot (bonnet) for staying away for a few days if needed :)

As for running costs, dont know, have not had a serivce yet?

ave mpg is around 23-26

No I Dont think that £27k is to much for a Mid engined RWD car with looks/performance that could kill...lol ;)

As Clarkson said, it looks like a supercar, sound like a supercar and goes like a supercar so at £27k its the bargin of the century :) :)

Couldnt find one for £21k though.

RENAULTSPORT V6 3dr hatch

Retail £27,100

Our Price £23,895

Saving £3205

Lowest Ive found.

Ok so its still £10k more than a 182, but the V6 is a totally different car, and some are prepared to pay that for the good looks alone.

From a non-owner perspective, having driven one... it really is a b**ch to turn round in tight gaps, and youll be parking in the mother+baby section, or accross 2 spaces.. its not really practical if youve got kids.. it gets very warm inside the car with the windows up and the aircon off so make sure youre ready for the extra gallons required for that on the long haul..

Id still have one, no question.

Who needs total practicality when it looks like that, goes like that and sounds like that.

Its still a useable daily car, its not that bad on fuel if you take it easy (and lets face it, you wont be redlining it every day - well I would but Im an animal)

Why is it a b**ch to park?

????, HAVE YOU SEEN A V6. WIDE A FCUK

I thought that untill I bought one, its only 3" wider than my Fiesta Zectec 1.6, thought I might have trouble fitting it in garage, but no trouble at all.

they are not hard to park...

What??? I can park my 255 in ONE bay..you dont need two?????

hot inside?? not anymore than normal, and (contry to popular believe) aircon only cost you about 2 mpg more than no aircon with windows down???

But like I said, if there is just you and your partner then yes, can be used everyday, but I keep my Fiesta for family trips :)

I drove a MK1 on tuesday and I was well impressed. The noise.............Mmmmm fantastic. Never got chance to drive the other MK2 (0004) in blue.

The turning circle was bad, but hey Id get used to it very quickly.
The steering didnt seam as sharp as my Williams though, but the shear visual apperance of the V6 is wonderful, from outside and inside looking out of the mirrors to see those beasy arches.

In a few years.......who knows I may find a nice one to add to the collection.

Hot inside?

I found that with the window open it actaully got hotter inside? Something to do with hot air coming in from the side air vents

I think they must mean the Mk1 V6, that had a thin engine cover, the Mk2 has got much thicker engine cover that doesnt feel that warm at all even after pushing the car hard??

Simon.

No problem with heat inside with my Mk1.

Lowest setting and highest fan has kept me cool in all the heat, no problem.

Hair pin corners can be interesting.

Parking no problem, always leave space on the drivers die as door is fairly wide.

Yeah I agree about the door, its a bit of a ba*tard getting out of my doors in my thin garage, I have to park it about a 1mm from my right side and clamber out of the passenger side..lol

even then its a blo*dy squeez :)

think I will buy some touchup paint just in case..lol

the door sills are massive

Simon.

We are talking about the mk2 here though.

Just recounting personal experience.

Take it or leave it!!

well to do nearly 9k since beginning of Feb I guess ours is used as an "everyday car" well and truly - I drive it into London a lot of days, and it is just a perfect pleasure to drive, as often, as long, as short, as little as you like - whenever, whatever, to do anything, including parking and turning (well maybe thats stretching the truth an incy wincy bit!!!) but it is a pure pleasure to drive, and I really miss it if I havent driven it for a couple of days !

  Forester Sti, SC Clio V6,

Buy one and get a rover 820 (£300 from any rag) for shopping, towing the Kart, going to the dump and other crap you may have in your life!!
