V6 Boys and Girls..

  Evo MR FQ300 & Clio V6

I have found my dream V6 - Mark one in silver with low mileage and in stunning condition - Has stone chip on windscreen but that is it! - Anyway its a 2002 model.

What else should I look at and what are the common problems / faults - So far I have read about coil packs and thats about it!

Also what modifications have people carried out. There is an induction kit fitted which just sounds mad (in the good sense) - Also like the later Mk2 lights and clear side repeaters (quite a few good posts at present!) - What is the differences in the Mk1 and Mk2 spoilers - any pictures to compare, the ones I have seen they look similar. Has anyone changed the exhaust - if so what to and is it worthwhile, dont want a stupidly loud exhaust just one that allows the V6 to work at its best.

Any advice etc. on what to look for or check would be great.

Cheers

Simon

Check for:

Oil leaks near the gearbox - in fact, make sure everything about the gearbox feels ok, because theyre prone to going wrong for no apparent reason.

Also just have a look for the usual crash damage signs, make sure rear tyres have some grip left, check the discs/pads because these are expensive and will be a good bargaining chip if theyre very low.

As for mods, most people start with an induction kit (either Pipercross [bit sh1t quality], BMC or ITG). Exhausts are available but a bit more expensive - about £800 for a nice shiny backbox and double that for the rest of the system. Give BenR a shout if youre interested.

Remember very low mileage isnt always a good thing; cars arent designed to just sit around and seize up.

Good luck!

Are you sure it has no other stone chips? If the front has been tidied up, was it just a tidy up or anything worse?

Of course keep in mind new tyres, brake pads if you intend to drive it rather than polish it and put it back in the garage.

From experience they dont like to sit doing nothing.

yea i know fords had em, i had to turn away a couple of focus a while back, couldnt do screen repairs on em as they had the heated front screen. had to have entire new screen fitted for a stone chip

Its a low mileage but the car is driven a few times a week and engine allowed to get to temperature etc. - The car is really clean and the front hasnt been tidied up just a freak stone caught the windscreen. Its a BMC induction on it. This car is my second car and will be weekend and night time use - Going to be using my Fiat coupe for commuting and also have my Williams 3 - If it sells soon fair enough, if not then I will keep it.

What are the best warranty companies - Had one that was a waste of paper and money, want one that gets things fixed should it be required.

Car has 9777miles. - There is one in a garage that has 5000 but I thought that was pushing it!

Can you test the coils - resistance etc. or is it a case of if they go you know about it?

Cheers

my laguna has a heated front screen...

mk1 v6 have poor hot starting..... can be a pain... rear wheel tracking causes tyre wear... handle a bit wobbly mate learn the car before you thrash... it will bite you!!!

I think the majority of warranty companies will argue a claim with you for a while, its in their nature!

I have taken out a policy with Warranty Direct, which covers the scary items like the engine and (weak) gearbox, I hope *touch wood* that if anything else goes wrong, I can afford to pick up the bill.

Hi Simon..............if the car is still under warranty then look around and call them to discuss whats covered etc...................I went for Warranty Wise with Wear & taer cover and MoT fail cover.....................I just took it out for 1 year cause they agreed to let me renew it for another 4years come the renewl without any change in cover :D

As for the coils................not sure how easy it would be to check them but if they go "YOU WILL KNOW ABOUT IT"...............it sounds like a badly missfiring tracktor :D

And about exhausts...............there a few out there....................my car had the Reno supply & fit stainless steel one fitted when I got the car..........this was an option on the V6 when first introduced and cost £874 + vat

Youll see the exhaust when we meet up...................if I remember Ill bring the details of the warranty aswell yeah :)

Cya Stu

PS sorry about the war & piece job but you did ask eh :D

Cheers Stu,
Has a warranty until November. I have looked around and janspeed seem to do a system and the ones from Ktec. Will be nice to see the difference in noise (from inside) standard over aftermarket.
Cheers

Can stone chips be repaired or is it new windscreen time? I have one on the 172 and would like it sorted if its easier enough.

Yep stone chips can be repaired as long as it isnt a heated screen.................all the windscreen places do it, the AA do it, loads of places, you just need to find a place local to you eh..................I think it costs about £20 :D

Hi Liam....................hows it going?

Im sure one of the windsceen paces do the UV purple for about the £160 mark...............Auto Windscreens thats the place :D

hi Stu,

thought they would be much more expensive than that,

V6s are so cool, get it Rennie.

:)

Youre behind the times Liam...............Simon (Rennie) has only gone and done it eh :D..............Ill be meeting up with Simon soon in Aberdeen so it should be pretty cool with the 2 Vees together eh  well get some pics up too ;)

Cya Stu

PS as for the screen I had the same problem with R and that was the same price but I managed to talk the guy down to £120 on the doorstep eh

Hey guys - always happy to post some pics. Simon, the exhaust is as Stu describes; its essentially two seperate exhausts welded together, which allows for a very free-flowing system - unlike when the two exhausts can meet in the middle causing problems (according to pro-speed).

And because its Pro-Speed, it had a lot of time put into it, so it looks nice too!

That looks nice!!
I take it that was made on your car as opposed to an off the shelf one. - What is the difference in performance and noise?? Was the removal of the grills in the fender option or due to the exhaust?
I take it everyone with a MK1 has got MK2 rear lights!! - Mine went on the second day I had the car :D

Cheers
Si
