V6 - width at front

  Renault Laguna Coupe

Could some kind soul tell me the width of a V6 Mk2 between the front arches please? I need to work out whether itll fit in the space that the 172s nose currently occupies. The rest of the car wont be a problem.

If your garage is anything like mine, opening the doors will be the biggest issue.

Bloody new house designers just dont think about V6s.:(

Yeah its a little bit difficult in a single garage isnt it....lol

I have to park mine so that the car is squeezed right up to the drivers door and then exit on the passenger side, that way I can judge it right down to mms so that the right side air intake just misses the brick pillar on the garage wall...its a close thing....lol

my dad had is house built and although he opted not to go for a double garage he has at least got a much bigger single garage....wish I had...:D

I assume the distance between the tips of the wing mirrors is exactly the same as a 172 tho since its original from there upwards? Have always thought that since I can squeeze 172 thru one of my current doors that a V6 would go in similarly, tho getting out with the deeper doors might be a challenge.

Ironic thing is that my planned extension has now been designed to replace 2 x single garage doors with a double width electric shutter door (after something Simo sad about getting one fitted for security when he got his V6). Trouble is that the spiralling extension costs mean that I probably cant afford the V6 anymore :(! Will have very swish garage door tho!

Its 191mm wider between the mirrors than a 172/182. Cant work out why, but the brochure that I have says 1639mm for the 182 and 1830 for the V6. I actually doubt the accuracy of this. It wouldnt go though my garage door if that figure is accurate.

Theres no doubt that the fronts a lot wider though.

How come houses have such small garages these days? How does Mondeo man manage to get his in if a Clios such a tight fit?

Hmmm ... strange about the wing mirror width given the logic that they take the 182 shell, cut the rear arches out, bond door skin and rear wings on, and add the wider front wings. Bloody Renault can even get their drawings right!?

Garages are built smaller because most people dont use them for cars any more, and so builders think they can save a few bricks and squeeze in an extra house or two per mega-estate by saving 220mm width per house  I certainly never bothered with a garage before I got my 172, and even then only after a storm blew a stack of ties off house roof. Took me about 10 mins on that day to move enough crap from one garage to the other to garage and squeeze my car in. Strangely my missus Picasso got left out on drive despite the storm ;)

Clearly the security very much depends upon what you get. Not that Ive done much research - I was principally wowed by how cool (or is that geeky) the doors were ;)

The electric door Im looking has got insulated metal slats which run up very solid metal channels on each side. No gaps round the edges or anything. Nothing to lever to break the locking mechanism unlike the traditional up and over door. If you want to spend more, then sectional doors are even stronger.

My view on security is that the easier it is for you to "deploy" the security the device the more likely you are to use it. Hence with an electric door Ill always use the garage, since whenever I drive up the drive, Ill open the door and drive in etc..
