Valver Chip - Worth It?

Been considering gettint the valver chipped in the near future and was wondering if I can expect any good gains. Can anyone share their experiences with this please, and if so, which company and chip. Many thanks in advance, Steve :D

I wuldn't bother raly custom ones would be the best way but for the price and gains I'd not bother the money cna be better spent on a 2.0 bottom end etc.

How much would a bottom end be roughly and how much labour would I be looking at?

Bottom ends £150~350.

Then a new cambelt and clutch (might as well when there out so thats £160 or so) plus head gasget (£30) then a remap to deal with the extra power (unless you want to run /buy a whole Williams ECU and loom) OR Gunner gibson on WIlliams CLio sells cheap ECU just swop your valver chip for one which has 2.0 maps on it whcih although arn't perfect for every car they give more power than a custom 1.8 16V map would plus give more oportunities for more power either with cams or a custom remap again.

Labour well officailly its about 20 hours to do but places who know what there doing your looking at £300ish.

Assuming a cheap bottom end you get I'd say bottom end price is £650 but you are getting a new clutch and cambelt or getting a whole Willaims engine would reduce labout by about £100 Plus you'd get more power unmodified sicne the Willaims head and cams are better. Often its not a chouice as people use the Megan bototm end and have to use the 1.8 head as the Megan head isn't an easy fit. Plus a ported 1.8 head is better for power than aquivalent Williams head.
Custom mapping or a 1.8 or 2.0

cheers edde, valvers in having a new clutch this weekend so thats one thing done! I'll have to have a look round for a bottom end then
