Valver - Fast enough at 19

Ive had my valver a year now and im lookin to get a new car. Im only 19 and im gettin pretty bored with the valvers pace. Do you think it would be silly for me to get a quicker car at a young age?

i had a 205 gti at 19, then a 306 gti-6 at 21 then a astra turbo at 23....

i think if i had the turbo at 19 i wunt be here today...

imo just build up slowly, so ya have somewhere to go if ya more more more....

i think it would mate, but then again if your used to the valver and feel you could handle a bigger car without wrapping it then go for it!...i thought yours was up for sale neway?

Yeah it is but im going to look at another valver but this ones tuned and styled.

I dont think that i would crash a faster car. Its just if i get a 2.0T or something - where do i go after that at 21?

Decisions Decisions!

plus i got all my 9pts while i had my 205, but have received none since, probably coz i dont drive like an arse anymore...

As with all of these things, it only goes as fast as you make it. If you feel that youre ready to have a faster car and wont drive recklessly in it then go for it.

As for where to go after... theres always something else on the shopping list to save for. I want loads of other motors, best get back on the autotrader website and work out if i can afford what i want....

I hate the way everyone thinks a faster car means a crash. a valver is more than quick enough to do serious damage with! lol

The other thing is, without going mad there isnt anything that is really that much quicker than a valver without going into the big leagues which means very big costs.

Im thinkin turbo at the moment. Punto GTs can be tuned to 170bhp very very easily but then theyre still not that much quicker.

As much as id love one i still dont think i get a high enough wage yet to be able to run one comfortably.

What are rover coupe 220Ts like? Theres a kiddie at my work sellin one for 4k - 42k on the clock, chipped, exhaust, custom coilovers, 17s - looks nice.

couple of 220 turbo rover tomcats up by me, these are pretty rapid and wud sh*t on ya valver but be warned, many problems lie ahead with the engine if you do get a 220:cry:

FAR too much power for the chassis, my dad used to have one back in 1995, he reckoned it would be lethal in inexperienced hands... apparently VERY difficult to keep in a straight line under power on wet/uneven roads...

In answer to the original question - as far as I can remember of being 19 you can never go fast enough! Thats why I ended up with a Lotus AND a motorbike for when the Lotus was too slow! On reflection I was very fortunate to come through it all unscathed and if I had the time again Id have stuck with an ok car and spent the extra on developing my driving (and riding) skills. Some good tuition and track time really help get it out of your system - again wish Id done it sooner. For most people it also makes you take fewer risks once you get back out on the road again.

Im 19, bored of valver pace, but ive had a look round and theres not many cars that are worth the dosh in insurance etc for little performance gains, so im gonna tune the valver, keep it for 2 years or so...and get a fiat coupe 20v turbo!;)

im 23 with a standard valver, i dont see the point of tuning it,

so im getting a fiat coupe 20v turbo instead,

and 810.00 f/c to insure, what a bargain (23 with 2 yrs ncd)

Yeah but theres not much point tuning a valver because you dont get much to show from alot of money.

I may just stick clio, get my no claims up even more and then buy myself a 20th birthday present!

faster cars combined with younger inexperienced drivers (im not aiming this at you tom) i.e 2 year max experience == bigger chance of crashing, whats the first thing they are gunna do? "lets see what this thing can do" you know what i mean?

Yeah i can see where your coming from but it all depends on what kinda driver you are really. Im not one for pushing myself on the public highway but then theres plenty of peps that are. Im really not worried about getting a faster car for the crash factor as i beleive that i wouldnt.
Maybe i should just stick the valver out for now anyways......................

LOL IMHO a valvers too much of a car at 17! Still, if youre used to it and havent crashed it then why not, as long as you can afford the insurance.

I had a 1.0 Fiesta at that age, and even by my mid twenties was only up to a Clio 1.4 RT...then again, now in my thirties I drive the fastest car in the world so I suppose thats some progress.

i had a nova 1.4 sr at 19, thought it was the quickest thing in the world, then got a corsa sri, that was sh*t, then scared myself silly at 21 in a valver, then got an mr2 at 22, now still 22 on my 2nd valver and wantin a punto gt for a change and a turbo!

get rid mate, they are only fun for so long IMHO!!!

my first car on the road is a valver my second car WILL BE an impreza turbo! crazy i know but i intend to keep the valver for a while hopefully till im 25 for cheaper insurance but oh the valvers gonna come on in those years gonna b a little rally sl*g dont think ill ever sell it lol

It depends on what you consider to be "quick". Realistically, there arent that many hot hatches that are considerably quicker than a Valver in a straight line anyway. Whats more, I doubt youd get insured on something like an Alfa 147 GTA or Focus RS anyway at 19!

The second issue in my mind is that I honestly believe that a 16V is one of the quickest ways of getting from A to B, given a few twisty roads. I bet a well driven 16V would keep up with my Coupe 20V Turbo down my local B-roads, despite getting blown away on the straights (and no, the Coup doesnt handle like a bag of poo). The only sorts of cars that really have the 16V aced on these sorts of roads are the ilk of the Impreza, Elise and Williams.

I would like to think Id always return to a Renault hot hatch and I probably will do so at some stage in my life.

another thing is that in my mind fast doesnt necessarily equal fun, ive had 2 evos now and whilst they are great for blasting around, lighning quick acceleration/brakes etc they arnt always the most fun.....i can honestly say that probably the best driving car ive ever had was a 205 1.6 GTI and that includes the cup!

Depends on the person in question! Ive got a mate who is mad (and always has been since 17) Never had a ticket or a bump (that was his fault);). I see some young tits around and think "oh my god what a pillock".

Just depends on you like i say.

I was mad (ish) before i was say about 20 so kept myself to a 1.0 Metro and then a 1.3 Escort. I knew that if Id have blown all my money on an RS Turbo or something I would have gone mad!

Even when I was 21 i only went for a tame little VTR. WISH TO THIS DAY ID HAVE BOUGHT THE VTS  but I still enjoyed the vtr.

Getting done for speeding really put the brakes on me. Well more than most people anyway. Im always looking over my shoulder (so to speak:)) now.
