valver sus onto an rt

  1.4 clio rt
hi, will clio 16v shocks and springs go onto a clio rt? also, what does a 'strut' do and where does it feature in the suspension system? thanks, tom

Rear shocks will go straight on.

Front Shocks/Springs won't go on without changing a lot of stuff (because of the wider track etc..)

You need to check if the strut bolt hole spacing (distance from the centre of one hole to the other) on your car is 54mm. If it is then you can bolt 16v shocks on, if not then you'll need hub carriers with this spacing.

I've done it...no other parts required and theres no difference in track between 16vs and lesser clios either.

Chances are if its a 1.4 RT then the spacing will be ok but check...

As above.

Strut is the shock absorber...its what your spring sits inside!

Fitting 16v shocks and standard 16v springs will lower the RT 20mm
Fitting 16v shocks and -35mm 16v springs will lower the RT about 40mm

Erm?
The 16v has a wider track than than normal Clio's... (1.2/1.4/RSi)

The Williams wider still.. heh.

No it doesn't...valver is the same track width as the lesser clios.

The fact the subframe, wishbones and hub carriers are the same basic shape confirms this.

100%? :S

The rear is definetly wider! I can remember measuring it on Weight's drive!

The track was one of the main reasons I was looking at 16v/Williams over my 1.2..

If I see a Mk1 1.2/1.4 I'm going to measure it! :p

I don't think so Daz TBH and Lunner agrees;

as i said, subframe is the same basic shape as are the wishbones and hub carriers...and shafts...if they're the same then the track must of course be the same.

I reckon its the wings and wider wheels that are confusing things...done it myself before...

Well, ya.. maybe.

We measured with the same wheels on tho..

Anyways,

If it is the same, I'm glad I got a Williams.. :p (Else it'd have been Willy tracked, hehe)
