valver

That's from mine. 155bhp (most likely ATF). 0-60mph is around 8 seconds (I think that's book figure). 137bhp ATW (book figure). Power doesn't really kick in till 4.5k rpm. :)

Hope that helps.

Finding a clean one these days thats not going to bleed your wallet dry, is quite a task.

Good cars though, have a look at the F3P 1.8 8v as well, nearly as quick to 100 and quicker off the mark + it doesn't have the bad boy look and they generally seem less abused and in better nick.

sure, what would you go for, a full valver in good condition or a mk2 ph1 172 thats been smashed up but the engine is ok and on 75k, valver £250 or 172 £500????? decisions, think ill go for the 172 myself.....

Without trying to tell you how to live your life, but if your other thread about two jobs is anything to go by, i'd be looking at the cheapest run about I could find. The two cars you have listed at those prices are going to be money pits to keep on the road!

But hey it's your money!:D

lol, if i have to work 2 jobs id like to have somthing for myself for it lol, i understand what your saying but me doing s**t like this is why im in the situation lol, i cant help myself arrrr, im beyond help :)

standard book figure is 137 bhp ATF! not at wheels.

if that's a genuine reliable dyno reading Jim then your 16v is not standard.

  Looking for a ph-quick...
I would stay well away from a car that has been well smashed up. Even if you replace all the physically broken parts, the car wont be the same. But as already mentioned its ups to you that jsut my opinion.

If you keep your eye out you can get a decent valver for reasonable cheap. Keep it well maintained and with a few small mods will be good as gold. Mine for example had the head rebuilt, decat, zorst, standard airbox, ran 6.9 to 60 and with 146bhp just those mods.

Oh, sorry my bad, I thought that was ATW. Cheers for putting that straight for me. ;)

I don't know how reliable mate, it came with the folder full of receipts when I bought the car from off here. The car is modified though. You know what dyno's are like I guess, they all differ from each other. lol.

But hey, it says 155 so that's what I'm telling people. Hehe. :rasp:

breaking news: mofo takes another step to bankrupcy.....

atleast you'll be able to give something to the baliffs when they come a'knockin'

You need more than the engine though.

if you get a valver you just gotta remember that it is an old car and problems occur. bought mine with 67k on the clock, full renault history. but the clutch, cambelt and head gasket have all needed replacing since. you've got to expect things to go wrong with a 13 year old car after all!!

If its going for £250, its going to need the above, plus new..

arb bushes
2 x track rod ends
2 x bottom ball joints
2 x drive shafts
4 x wheel bearings + new pads + new disks
overhaul on both rear arches + weld the hole up in the sill
weld on the steering column
fix leaking sunroof
replace switches in both windows and reverse light switch on gearbox + replace gearbox oil in process
replace wiper stalk, due to non function intermittent.

Then after all that, take it to a garage to find out the compression on cylinder No. 3 is way off the mark due to worn piston rings, then in your anger thrash your car home, but at junction No. 2 of the journey, pop the circlip out the gearbox, which in turn causes the Aux belt you forgot to replace to take out the cambelt you have just replaced the day before.

Good times.
