it was called by Renault a 'Clio 16v', knicknamed 'valver'. It was one of the few engines at the time that used 16 valves instead of 8. the vauxhall red top (C20XE) was a 2.o 16v and often called a valver lump
enthusiasts term for the finest of old skool renault engines, the 1.8 16v
usually found in the clio and also the 'old mans' 19,
not to be mistaken for the lowlier RT
i thought all multivalve engines were known as valver's??
i didn't realise it was just the clio.
must say when the clio 16v did come out the thing was like a different league compared to the cars on the road at the time.
its just a nickname the engine has recieved, yes all engines use valves and CAN be called valvers,
but any rocker cover can be painted red, and called a red top,
mk2/3 golf gti 16v's are also referred to as valvers in the dub community...............when a 16v engine meant performance now your hard pushed to see a car with an 8 valve lump.
