Viper Power problems...help please

I have just fitted a Pipercross Viper to my 2004 172. However if I am at 2000 revs in 2nd gear and then flaw it the car picks up slowly until 5000 revs. it doesnt feel as quick as before!! However when I reach 5000 revs in 2nd then there is a serious kick of power. The rest of the gear range is fine and it seems more powerful. However 2nd gear is a crucial for overtakin.

I have installed it according to the instructions and placed the cold air feed over the existing pipe leading to the airvent under the spot.

Please help....I think I am going to put the old air filter on again and hope it still has this power loss in 2nd and then take it to renault if no one can help.

Vipers work a bit too well, and the ECU cant supply enough fuel so the engine runs lean. You can get this corrected by having a custom re-map - a reputable Superchips dealer can do this, as can hillpower.co.uk (who Id recommend).

Strange its only 2nd gear though.

Would this be the case for all Clios?

Im told that when Clios are run and they loosen up this doesnt happen anymore. The engine at this point takes in alot more air?

Are you sure this is the reason? By the feel of it, it looks like the other way around... like the IK cannot supply enouh air while the speed is low. I would like - of course - that youre right and I have just to have a chip done :)

Needs a direct air feed to the outside. Probably being restricted by the size of the airvent. Channel the intake pipe to the front grill.

and yes....get it checked for lean running, otherwise itll go bang. Mine really f**ked the fueling and needed chipping!!

dont put the air feed over the existing pipe coming under the front bumper, i did this and had the same problem like some sort of lag, just put the air feed somewhere else, i put mine facing down the engine bay and worked fine.

^^^^^^^^

i would do that. route the air pipe to the a place around the bumper where its gets a good supply of cold air,

Similar thing happened when I first fitted the Viper to my CTR. I started using the stock air intake (by the radiator in the front of the engine bay). It ran like a dog, made a lot of noise and provided very little go!

I removed the front air intake and re routed the pipe away from the engine (on the CTR the best place is a nice hole behind the battery that leads into the front arch) and its fine now.
