Virgin Media 20Mb XL - Slow?

Anyone else's 20mb XL VM connection crawling along?

I know you should take online speed tests with a pinch of salt but it's painfully slow just browsing the web.

Download Speed: 333 kbps (41.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 417 kbps (52.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

I also know they are experimenting with network shaping but this is beyond a joke!

Youtube/streaming media is not even worth bothering with

thats pretty much a 1/2 meg line you currently have, 5 years ago that would have been super fast

Constant 512KB down.

What annoys me is 2 weeks ago I was on the 10mb and it was great lol

im on 10 MEG and i get 5700 kbps

Top tip, don't upgrade it!

Although I think the shaping session has come to an end

Changing the destination server seems to give dramatic results!

I'm on Orange 4 meg and I get around 3800/3900kbps downstream and 260kbps average upstream connection allday routered over 2 pc's

lol, just seen the virgin BB advert on tv braggng about the constant 20mb download no matter how far from the exchange you live.............

They are still probably doing work in your area so it may be like that untill it is complete.

It only affects me in the evenings say 5pm till midnight.

Virgin Media Broadband Size: XL Traffic Shaping.
During peak times, the top 5% on the Size: XL package download at least 3GB of traffic each.

Any users hitting this amount during peak times (4pm till midnight) will have their broadband speed temporarily traffic managed – their download speed will be set to 5Mb, with their upload speed set to 256Kb. This will last for 4 hours from when the traffic management policy is applied

Now I'm not downloading 3GB browsing cliosport or getting the 5Mb.

I'll post another speedtest result after 12 and you'll see my issue!

yeah but still seams way to low for any traffic shaping measures... god i am constaly downloading and uploading 10's gigs worth of s**t all day without any bother lol

mine is anywhere between 12-18Mb where as it used to be a solid 10Mb

I tried that Speedtest, and it varies depending on the server you choose.
If I pick close to home the download is crap, I pick one further away and it goes up to 11mbps :S

Unfortunatly the file they transfer is not big enough so it doesnt give enough time for the connection to ramp up in speed.. still not too bad though

My 20mb is crap with VM too, browsing etc is painful at peak times :dapprove:

Also, my 10mb was perfect, there was no need to change !

not really as i used to get 100% of my band width now i only get between 60-90%
