VLC Player and Windows Media Player

Whenever I play a movie that is a large file and is 720p for example it keeps skipping, freezing and it is really buggy.

Is this likely to be my laptop or can anyone else suggest another good media player?

probably your laptop not a good enough spec, and lack of hardware accelleration by your graphics card, could try some different codecs though.

I've tried on my PC too and the same is happening.

I thought they were both a reasonable spec though and should be able to handle a film!

What spec of PC/Laptop? (CPU, Graphics Card etc)

Stop other processes running while you are watching - free up system resources

Could be a hard disk issue too. Is indexing turned off? Perhaps if you have AV like McAfee it's got On-Access Scan enabled, that could cause issues too.

Laptop has 2gb ram. AMD turion 64 x2 1.8 ghz and Nvidia 128mb card of some kind.

PC is the same but has a core 2 duo 2.8 ghz. both not running anything else when I am trying.

Both are on Vista.

When you say nothing running do you mean open programs or have you actually stoped the background processes?
