Car needs satin grills or some products used on it, a replacement N/S fog light, lowering and wheels changed with new plates?

Ha only messing... It's probably better than most of the cars that are claimed to be good on here Leon :)

I like how everyone on here just seems to hate it. Was only trying to put across a point with what I said. Getting quite abuse from it. Frankly just had enough of it.

I don't think everyone hates it. I personally think it's more the fact it has a PH1 172 engine in it, but the owner is still oblivious, as Renault have said it doesn't.
Personally I'd trust Fred who found all the problems. With a lot of TLC it could... be nice, but the fact it has a 736 engine is always going to be a deciding factor.

Im still the owner of it. Im the 6th owner of the car. I have the belts to do next service so which gives me the chance to see the engine code, to see if it is whichever engine. A renault specialist told me its a 182 engine but he couldn't be sure without taking the engine out. But I will post up about it when I have done that

What actual, tangible difference does it make though? How is it actually any worse to justify the loss in value? It's not had a 1.2 engine dropped in it.

The amount of clios running round with the wrong engine in is probably huge. It's like when people put a cup gearbox in a Ph1, it's not the one it came with so it must be half the value?

You could just take the plenum off and check the breather plate on top of the rocker cover.
Not a 100% way to tell, but unless the breather and plenum have both been swapped for 182 ones, they are different on 172's

182 breather plate won't fit on a 172 head unless someone's fitted the 182 cam cover. But that's a whole different can of worms to open! Lol

We still going on about this bloody engine? It's too old of a car for anyone to care now.
I bet plenty of people are driving round in a mk2 on the wrong engine code.

I don't think there is any doubt that Fred was correct...

I remember Fred's report or whatever showing the difference in the inlet setup etc / cam cover

I think the only way out is by making it a forum hero and documenting the s**t out of it with lots of maintenance/tasteful changes etc

Used to love my misses old LY

I don't think the problem was that it had the wrong engine, it's that every dealer didn't declare it and tried to flog it for a massive premium.

If the price was lower and the engine was declared, there wouldn't be an issue.

But because it was spensive and sneakily sneakied, it's become a forum favourite to bash. The license plate doesn't help either lol.

I know ive mentioned it in other threads but i almost bought this years ago from a garage in stroud, was on 15k miles

Fairplay to the dealer he showed me all the disability bits under the dash and im assuming he didnt know about the engine (id never heard of this car until a year after i bought my LY)

It was up for £7500
I rang him up to pay for it after i went away to think and someone beat me to it, i found it back up for sale a month or two after i 'missed out'

Fair to say there wasnt a blemish on the body work at the time

Got pics on my laptop somewhere

Sadly, putting words in my mouth. I did not mention anything in regards to value or fault that anything was wrong with a 736 engine.

The car currently is on 78,500 miles on the clock. Got some age related scratches and marks. Have plans to in the future to respray the bumper and bonnet. And one bad scratch on the drivers side wing. This is the most recent picture taken a week ago.

Part of me wishes I’d bought it when it turned up down here. But given that it’s the only one with nav you couldn’t really rip the interior out and track it.
