Voip

  Not a Clio
Due to Pipex pissing about and cancelling our voice service with them and being unable to reconnect us (problems with BT) we are now back on b*****d BT.

Does anyone know of / can anyone recommend a VOIP system that is not expensive and does not require any software installing? (If any linux users have a suggestion that requires software installing then I may be interested)

I just want to be able to plug it into the router and away we go.

We currently have a 2Mb connection but that's being upgraded to 8Mb in 7 - 10 days time. There is no download limit.

Cisco Phone (7940G, 7960G, 7970G) with SIP firmware and a decent SIP service - such as sipgate.co.uk, vonage.co.uk, etc.

It's a linux-based software system, but you might want to check out Asterisk: http://www.asterisk.org/

I've been running this for the last 18 months for my office of thirty employees and four remote sites; using Cisco 79xx VOIP phones.

The software is open source; and the documentation makes it easy to set up.
We bought most of the Cisco phones on eBay to cut costs, and the only hardware purchase was a T1 card to plug into the leased line (which was approx $250 mail order for the VOIP system)

If you want a full, free (as in beer) PABX this is really hard to beat!

The "T1" card is the hardware ISDN card - you can configure this as ISDN30e (the 'European' standard) if you like; My T1 cards hands off one trib' of a leased-line (which itself is configured as an ISDN 30e).

I only mentioned Asterisk because its free, it runs on linux so moderate PC/server hardware only, and you can use any Cisco VOIP phone or even a 'software' phone like X-Lite...
