Want new ICE - suggestions

Ok, its time to Ice up my car (but not ott - dont want to spend too much)

I want a MD headunit, MP3/CD changer to fit under passenger seat and maybe upgrade the fronts and dash tweeters. Oh and it must all work with the display and steering remote.

What do you recommend?

That depends on how much you are looking to spend really. The adapter for the screen and controls isnt very expensive. If you can let us know your budget we should be able to recommend some suitable units for you..most likely from the Alpine or Rockford Fosgate range

Thanks for the reply Russ, I guess I dont really have a budget for this - but Im not planning on spending £1000s. Im not a real car ICE person as I prefer to listen to music at home but I hate CDs/tapes in the car which is why I want MD.

My last MD (which I still have in a box) was a Sony MD, but thats a few years ago and when only Sony did in-car MD. I find it difficult to find MD head-units when looking.

How about suggesting something that you think is average and I can work on that. I dont want to be changing/cutting panels etc and would like things to replace existing factory stuff easily. (im that clueless that I dont know what the difference is between components and speakers!)

i think its actually impossible to fulfill all of your requirements

i dont think you can use the display with any md units on sale today

i would get an alpine md and a alpine mp3 cd changer

Tom, I know its possible to have the display working with a Sony setup (MD head, Mp3 changer) but I was wondering what the alternatives are if I didnt have Sony.

Trouble is, I dont think there are that many MD head-units about but I hate having CDs in the car - they are soo big and clumsy.

You are going to be struggling on this one. Alpine do everything except a MD headunit as it is dying technology these days. Ive looked into Kenwood and Panasonic units but they cant provide the harness for the screen.

It looks to me that you will have to go for Sony eqipment if you want all of the functions that you mentioned. Its either going to be a case of sticking with what you have or upgrading to other more up to date Sony stuff.

Russ, I know MD is a little old but I use them everywhere. But if I dont go for in car MD what are my alternatives? I dont want CDs or tapes - I dont want a HD head-unit either (unless it was a wireless mountable drive to a pc so it could stay in my car!) I dont want lose cables about. I know there are flash mem cards, memsticks and the like, can you get decent units that use these in a plug in way like a cd/md head?

I dont know if i should recommend an mstataion as im not sure if im toitally happpy with mine but i think thats down to the lack of my pc nowhow.
