Want To Buy 1gb Geil Ultra X

You'd be as well getting the BH based 3200 value stuff. It clocks up well if you pump up the volts.

I have the PC4400 stuff and its sh*t hot does 290mhz easy. To get the boost consider this.

How much are you looking to spend?

Dan

well, ive got 1GB of the Geil stuff at the mo and its been really really great - i cant really afford to shell out on a new 2gb set all in one go - and thats the whole point - i want 2gb asap so why not just plonk another gig in there without splashing out on 2gig in one go?

Lol, i can only really afford about £80 so any second hand stuff would be good.

Ive got an nforce 4 mobo - what ram can i use with this?

You should be fine with any DDR stuff.

I would sell the two sticks you have and buy two 1gb ones if your upgrading.

Do you need 2gb yet?

Dan

i dont NEED 2gb - im just greedy i guess lol - i really need a new motherboard, then perhaps a new gpu as although i thought my 7800GT Extreme was modern (and expensive) at the time of buying it- within a week it was superceeded by the 7900 range lol!!!

I can run most games on full whack and can also run Oblivion on very very high settings with only a little judder when in exterior locations but still, i think ill need to upgrade soon.

Thats the thing with computers - you either keep upgrading or leave it and face a huge bill when you eventually get around to doing it!

What CPU do you have at the moment?

I have an X850xt PE at the moment on AGP. My next big upgrades going to have to be a change of motherboard to PCI-e. I have a 3200 venice running 2.6ghz (at 25degrees) on water and its fine at the moment, nothing seems to slow it down (bar 3D Mark, they always cook your machine).

As you said upgrade a bit at a time, but if you upgrade your DDR ram, your still going to have to go, motherboard, ram etc in the future as it all going to be DDR2 now anyway.

I'd leave it, and save for a board, graphics card etc all at once, then flog your old kit as a runner on Ebay or something. Maybe clock up your kit as it is to cope with the newer games.

Buying more 3200 ram won't really do a great deal to your machine, if your running it stock speed there is no real point in buying the really good stuff.

What spec is the machine at the moment then?

Dan

Spec atm - AMD 64 4000+ San Diego, 1GB Geil Ultra X, Leadtek Geforce 7800 GT Extreme GPU, Nforce 4 Mobo (cant remember make although non sli) - remeber now - its a Gigabyte one

That machines great, nothing should slow it really. You could always go dual core to improve oblivion etc. Theres not much that uses 2gb games wise, the graphics card tends to be more important, and yours is fine.

If your using Photoshop for large images though it would be worth it.

Look at Geil Value 1Gb packs (makes sure they are BH based).

Don't upgrade for the hell of it, you sound too much like me (oooo shiney...must buy it).
