Wanted : New Car Suggestions

  1995 Mondeo Speed Machine

Im looking to get rid of my car in about 4 months time, the only problem is I dont know what to get!

The only criteria at the mo is it has to be less than 5 years old and must be insurable (under group 10). Id like a 1.6, preferably a 16v as I want something with a bit of go. Id thought about getting a newer Clio, but it would have to be the latest shape cos Im not a big fan of the bug eyed version! But I might have to wait a bit longer for the price to come down on second hand models.

I know I havent given you much to go at but can you people offer any suggestions. I havent got a budget set yet but it will be around the 4-5k mark.

cheers

Rick

p.s must have decent interior build quality and modifying potential!!

BenR - good call on the Zetec-s but they seem to be holding their value well at the moment so their a little bit out of reach for now.

Im really tempted by a VTR. Just been on Auto Trader and prices start at just 4k. Dont know how good I look in a Burberry baseball cap tho!;)

Saw a ZetecS the other day... They are nice, but I REALLY like Saxos when they are dropped to the deck - look nice.

Not much between with the zetec-s and the old vtr, both around 10 seconds to 60.

Fiesta is better specced, standard abs and traction control, cd player, some have heated front screen, and air con is on alot of them aswell, no saxos have them bits.

  Was a Clio 1.8 16v

Silly boy. Pay less and buy a phase 2 16v or the 106 GTIs are goin for less than 5k now i think. Dont buy a VTR unless u wanna be a sheep. ;)

Mikey, Id love to buy a 16v and I could probably afford one as well. But the insurance company are gonna have a field day with my premium. Im only 19 and Ive got no NCB!! But on second thoughts I might just get a quote, you never know!!

On the subject of insurance, according to the Parkers Car Price guide the VTS is grp 14  but it says the valver is between 12 and 15. Can anyone shed any light on which 16vs are group 12 and which are group 15?

Going to go round a few places today to see what the cars are like.

Rick (now dreaming of a valver!!!)

I think mate that it doesnt depend so much on what 16V it is, As they are all the same.

But how the insuramce company view the car. Try elephant.co.uk mate

They are good and tesco!

Buy a Valver its worth it!!

£1500:eek::eek::eek:

Ill have to start saving!! Cheers for the quotes anyway.

Had a look at a VTR today. Decent looking interior although the seats werent half as good as the ones in a VTS. Seemed generally well built on the inside and looked really nice in metallic blue.

Im a bit concerned about the potential bills if I get a 16v with say 75k on the clock, I can just about afford the general running costs and insurance but if stuff starts going wrong Im gonna be stuffed. I also assume that valvers enjoy the same annoying interior rattles that you get in other mk1s. What sort of interior trim do you get in 16v, are the seats leather? Do you get more supportive seats that an RT?

cheers

Rick
