Warranty - where do i stand?

  RB182 & Storm 200
I recently started hearing a very slight knocking noise from the passenger side when going at slow speeds. As the car is still in warranty I took it to Nottingham Renault to get it checked out.

They took a look and aren't 100% sure the issue however they think it could be the shock absorber but would not give any certainty. They recommended it was more than safe to drive and to see if the noise if it gets worse over time.

My issue is that despite still having a number of months warranty left, according to the garage, the warranty on shocks only lasts 2 years. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this?

I think its shocking that I have a 3 year warranty however depending on the part it could be less than that. Did Renault know they would begin to fail?!?

Has anyone else had this issue on their clio 200?

it would "only" be £175 to replace the shock however I feel its more a matter of principle.

Renault dont have any garages in Nottingham, where did you take it?

Personally if you are in Nottingham then I would pay a visit to one of the specialists off here, Diamond Motors (Mick) only works on Renaults and has alot of knowledge about Renaultsport Clios. He might have better luck identifying the issue and then you can at least go back to the garage and ask them to fix the issue under warranty for you? Depends if you dont mind paying for diagnostic work I suppose.

It may well be ball joints on the front hubs, on my 200 I had both of mine go at the same time, one week out of the original three year warranty.

Renault's attitude initially was "they're wear and tear items sir and you're out of warranty, that'll be £900 please" - it needed complete front hub assembly replacement and several hours of workshop time to do it.

After a day of back and forth arguing/haggling/screaming I managed to get a 40% contribution from Renault...but it still cost me over £500 in the end.

There are other alternatives around now that mean you shouldn't need to replace the entire hub so I wouldn't panic just yet.

As for it being a damper, genuinely, hope that it is for the sake of your wallet. They're not too much money direct from Renault.

Would a damper be covered by warranty though? Surely they're items that wear out, like brake pads etc.

On a brand new car, i'd expect everything other than tyres and brakes to last 3 years minimum.

If I was in the Op's shoes, I'd be calling Renault Uk if the dealer in question is not willing to replace them free of charge.

Get on to Renault CS, they are pretty good helped me out with a issue with my xenons on my 250 and my car has been out of warranty for over a year.

With a car in warranty I would expect everything to be covered except brakes and tyres like Daniel has said.
You could just take it to another Renault dealer and get them to look at it.
