washing car - what do you use

Been reading Swissols guide to car upkeep and it says to use wash cloths and not to use sponges unless they are natural sponge...so what do you use?

i use sponges cant see a prob as long as they are clean, grit is just as likely to get on cloths an thats the worse thing

This is what Swissol says

"Have two clean Swissol cloths on hand for your car washing day. Please avoid using a washing sponge whenever possible, since no matter how carefully you rinse out your sponge, a few dirt particles (fine sand grains etc) always remain trapped in the pores and can cause fine scratches on your paint surface.....

Cloths on the other hand can be washed after each use and are guaranteed to be free of residues for the next wash"

But, Im going to be getting a Sheep Skin (or something) Mitten - much better.. stops scratches with dirt on the surface.

Lambswool mitten, once youve tried it you wont go back to a sponge.It holds so much water and is more gentle on your paint than a sponge.

get the meguiars wash mitt or similar , it pulls the grit away for h surface avoiding scratches and swirls.

i use a Meguairs Microfibre Washmitt

definitely better than a sponge, thought it would be weird to use at first but its not

i just buy the cheapest washing stuff and do it regularily so that theres no build up of dirt!

Theres *always* dirt on the car.. and if you use a sponge, you only have to collect a bit of dirt and it will scratch.

ive had it from new (20th feb 04) and ive just never left it get stinking dirty.

ask benH, he complimented me on how clean it was and hes a perfectionist!

Re these newfangled wash mitts.. any ideas where one can get em? I tried a google-search and it didnt seem to find much. I get my new 182 in "1st week July" and wanna keep it looking that way for as long as poss!!

Just make sure that you dont use the same sponge for the lower part of the car as for the cleaner top part. The wheels and sills are possibly the worst areas for picking up grit so either keep one sponge or cloth for these areas or if particularly dirty, throw the sponge/cloth away after using.

I use a karcher to blast the dirt off, then wash with a natch sponge, karcher off the the sudds, then a coat of super resin polish(autoglym) and then 2 coats of extra shine gloss (Also autoglym) if im going for the real glow finish!

sponges contain sillicone which means if your paint is super clean or not it will scratch

so these (somewhat erotic looking) mitts are definately worth the money then? how do you clean the dirt/grit out of them? do you still get *any* swirling in the painwork?

Try the JML 3D microfibre cloth from Woolies, its only 1.99 and is magic, it removed loads of ingrained bugs from mine no bother and doesnt appear to hold bits of grit.
