Webcam issues?

I'm using a laptop thats conntected to a PC using cat5 cable to allow an internet connection. Its set up as a network.

If i try to send webcam through msn messenger it just says loading and then fails to connect, however, if i log in on the PC on my network, it works..?

Any ideas what this could be?
I need my cam to work

Also when you try use it on msn , Can you see your self? or does the image not even show up in webcam settings?

i can see myself and can use the software to take a picture with the cam.so i know it works and my laptop knows its there.

If i log into msn using a different account on the pc I'm connected to, and send my self an invitation to show webcam, it works, but won't work for anyone else.

What your probably using is what's commonly reffered to as a crossover cable. Granted it will let your Laptop and PC communicate but it's far from a "network" and it's cheap nasty way of linking two PC's together.

If the Laptop and PC are going to be linked often you need to setup a proper network and invest in a hub.

firewall problem, It works when you send the invite to ur self as thats not going onto the Internet thats just going Locally,
open your firewall advanced configuration and port forwards
1863-1863 tcp udp
5190-5190 udp
6891-6900 tcp
6901-6901 tcp udp

Thats a very cheap way of doing networking Btw

Its a temp meausre so i can use the internet on my lappy till the router comes tomorrow, had issues with Ebuyer..so it didnt come with the lappy as expcted.

Umm, i don't have a firewall enabled, so it can't be that. I've tried it.

I no Wanndoo's broadband box has its own router/Admin config panel.

AOL, it works fine if i plug the cam into the PC. So it may be a laptop setting?

If its just not connecting my 1st thoughts would be.

Firewall on laptop OR pc.

As i dont THINK theres any settings on ur laptop/pc other then firewall that will stop ur webcam connecting to a IP.

you got a little 'ghey' firewall on your laptop??
