On Monday I was stuck in Aberdeen with work and I was bored. Had a few beers, got a kit car magazine out then this happened....

I don't know much about it. I'll update as I find things out....

Emerald ECU
Straight cut ford type 9 box with extended first gear

Where's that thread gone where you wanted a toy but definitely didn't want a kit/westfield style car again?

Typical CS.

First drive...

It's near impossible to find first gear. Reverse or third are easy though....

It goes like f**k, seems to rev forever!

8 year old Avon tyres don't work, at all.

It wants to go left on braking.

Lots to do then!

Haha sounds like a handful already, what pads are up top?

And i have all the suspension setup and mod ideas you could ever want ;-)

My setup became legendary across the north once my car was sold up that way

Find out how to adjust a type 9 so selecting first is easier than selecting reverse! The whole gear assembly is vauge and it doesn't self centre!

There is an assembly that moves the gear selector back (assuming the gear knob is not under the dash)

It will be worn , replace the whole thing

Looks like you're weekend car is for tinkering, not for driving! Will be ace when you're finished. Well done you.

I'd switch that diff from a 3.62 to a 3.92

Be good to know what ratios that box has

Is it straight cut or a semi synchro bgh box with a long first ?
In most cases a straight cut is a total mare to shift and is only really useful for sprinting.

The k is also not that torquey compared to a zetec/duratec or a vx lump and i ran a big power zetec with no need for straight cut

In fact I'd only have one if i went sequential

In bits already.

Can't decide on wheels. Currently has 185/60/14's on. I wanted 185/60/13's but I think they'll lower it too much.

What's up with the box ??

You can go 13" no problem , i could just about run 8 inch rears but more normal is 7 rear and 6 front.

Nothing but I wanted to check it over. There was a misting of oil all over it. This looks like its from an over fill. Going to strip the linkage off it this week. I have a feeling its missing a saddle bush. I'll probably fit a couple of brass ones.

As for tyres, I don't want to give it too much grip....

So I'd like to stick with 185 all round. Which would mean 13x6 all round. I guess I could put a 13x7 on the back but I don't want the rear to look stretched.

If you can go 7 on the rear , 6 looks a bit silly

You're not on big power as 165 is fairly mundane in them and it won't take long to get used to .

When you get north of 220 it's interesting as don't forget it has the aerodynamics of a brick .

For road work the 3.62 diff is ok but if you work out where the power is on the k series and the ratios you would proberbly work out top is pretty redundant

Who built the box and which ratios did they use ,

My guess is it's a bgh semi synchro long first pro box as it's a decent box Brian builds for a good price

I can proberbly help you not waste money or spend twice

Oh and i hate k series engines having owned a few

  A special one.
MB Racing make 3 piece split rims, so you can get the offset and the width right.

The ones I had on my mini.

I'm not building a track weapon though. Just something to slither around in on a Sunday.

I have no idea on the box or ratio's. Like I said the car came with no info at all.... Even the diff tag is missing so I can't be sure its a 3.62!

Immediate plans are to fix the gear selection, GRP buckets, new wheels and some side screens.

New lights et al are on the way.

No 3.92 is nicer both road and track

Hated the 3.62 on the road

You might not like the long first on the road to be fair either but that sounds a plan

Avoid a cage , get a decent hood made that fits and enjoy it

Those bits sound a plan so far

Somewhere in the build will be reciept for the box and no doubt diff

They slither better with a decent LSD fitted too but when set up they do make a nice fun weekend blaster

Barnby wheels also have a habit of shattering in the middle ,

Image would be a far better bet , too many barnby caterham wheel failures hence people nowadays won't with a bargepole .
