Weird IDLING help!!!

  Revels Mum & Sister

I have a Phase 1 Clio 16V

When I take the car out for a spin and drive it steady (Under 4,000) it will idle fine when I stop. However when more revs are given. from around 5,00 upwards for a small period of time, the revs will then idle at 1,500RPM and will do so until I turn of the engine and start it again and then they steady at 1,000RPM

Any ideas what could be up??

Sounds like your coolent temp. sensor is on the blink, this is what the ECU uses to control idle speed, new ones only about 8 quid from BBPT.

I fitted a new one about 1 month ago. One of the BBtuning ones. So dont think it could be that.

Idle speed control valve maybe???

I have exactly the same problem in my 92 16v. Drive it hard and the idling raises until you turn the engine off and restart it, and then it kind of resets itself and the idling returns to 900 rpm. My car is booked in at a Renualt specialists on Monday morning so ill post on here next week when I find out the exact cause of the problem.

Quite funny you should mention that. Had mine changed today as it broke the other day. How does that make it idle strange??

Throttle Potentiometer - What does this part do and is it expensive if it broken?

Ta for all the help boys

Well dropped the missus back tonite and went for a late (ish) nite blat.

Tooked it to 7,000 through the 1,2 and 3. And then stopped. Idles fine. Not a problem. In fact better than before. Tried it again and drove round for 30 mins no stuttering.

Excellent. Much happier now. Cheers guys. My 16V makes me smile again!!!
